Lost art of Foraging

What is Foraging?

If I had to define this it would be the acquisition of food by hunting, fishing or gathering of plant matter.

So I come from a farmer's background. Agriculture was the basic livelihood of our family. From there my Father worked hard to provide for us and now I can proudly say that we are in a position where we can sustain ourselves nicely.

But coming back to the point I remember when I was about 5 years old my grandfather used to take me to the forest sometimes to gather Mushrooms and other stuff like some root veggies, birch of trees, dry leaves and sticks for cooking (There were no gas ovens at the time).

Even my Dad is a bit of a fishing enthusiast. The place where my dad was posted before here had a pond nearby and my dad used to stay hours waiting to catch a line. I don't know what was satisfactory about that it's ok to go in the forest for foraging but fishing is something I don't get specially when they use a line to catch fish.

So let's give out some tips for a good Foraging trip.

  1. Never take more than you require.
  2. Help the nature to retain its riches by planting seeds in the wild.
  3. Keep a broad perspective.
  4. Be knowledgeable about what is edible and what is not.

I know these are only four tips but again I am not a Foraging expert. I used to do it when I was a kid with my grandfather. Now I rarely go into the forest with the purpose of Foraging.

Oops I forgot to mention a key point in all this talking.
** Foraging will save you Money on Produce**

We all know how important Money is in our life so that helps too.

PS : I found the picture above from https://google.com so credit goes there. Currently I dont go for Foraging so I don't have pictures of it.

I like to give credit where it's due

Thank you for boosting foraging!! Foraging (including recipes and medicinal uses) will probably be the main thing I post about! I want to support a balance with nature in a crypto world. ;) I'm planning another trip to the mountains, and I know I won't have signal, so I want to wait until after to start posting. This post makes me feel so much comfort here on Steemit, thanks again.

Actually some credit goes to you too.

I almost forgot that I used to Forage when I was little when you told me that you like to Forage thats when I remembered my Experience.

Looking forward to your posts after your trip.

VERY true about that feelings.

My foraging is limited to finding raspberry patches on the way to the forest.

That is good too whatever you get from the nature free of cost could be called as Foraging.

I love foraging and practice with my parents, it is the best lifestyle, that people do not have time to foraging
They say it is more easily to go to the supermarket and bought everithing, but if you practice foragin it is better more satisfaction.

I am the transport of plants and seeds.

The feeling you get when you provide food on the table by your own hands is incredible . It is an another level of satisfaction.

Yeah it is true nothing as you grown up and collect your own food or catch your animals or fishing
The flavor of this kind of food it is totally diferent that if you go to the supetmarket it is more healthy for you practice foraging.
Thanks a lot.

I'm so thankful to see you pointing out that you have to be respectful in your foraging.
It's become a craze where I'm at and I grumble a bit. It's wonderful that people are rediscovering all the healthy foods nature provides for free, but many take too much and destroy the ecological environment in the process.
