Foods that contain high amino acids and antioxidants improves body performance. It is well known that antioxidants fight cancerous cells, and basic building block of protein is amino acids.

Lycopene, when it react with human body, it improve healthy reactions. It is commonly found as phytonutrient in fruits and fresh vegetables. It is responsible for red pigment in guava, tomatoes, red grapes and watermelons.

"To ensure healthy bone and heart, to prevent prostrate cancer, regular consumption of lycopene is recommended by scientists. As oxidants, it has been reported that it contains some antiinflammatory properties." Says Victoria Jarzabkowski, a nutritionist at University of Texas.

Always eat riped watermelon to enjoy more lycopene, the redder your melon, the more lycopene you will get.

In 2011, a study carried out and reported in Journal of Food Composition Analysis, the investigation of 5 species of watermelons and at 4 stages of ripening. It was concluded that ripped fruit, especially when it is fully red, contains more beta-carotene than fairly ripped or unrippened fruit.

Ripped water melon is a great source of the phytonutrient.

A cup of watermelon juice is ideal for healthy living, eating more than recommended amount might result in excess lycopene or potassium. This could cause health problems like bloating, indigestion and diarrhea. According to the American Cancer Society.

To avoid irregular heart beats, it is recommended that people with serious case of hyperkalemia should not take more than a cup of watermelon juice per day. Hyperkalemia is caused by excess potassium in the blood, watermelon contain potassium, so minimise your intake.

Be conscious of your sugar intake, watermelon at the same time, can increase blood sugar level, however, the sugar is natural, but excess of it can still wreck havoc!

My Recommendation

Watermelon is quite hydrating, please always eat it with some other fruits.

If you notice an increase in blood sugar level, boil a handful watermelon seeds and drink the tea. It is known for its ability to reduce sugar.
