My First Attempt at Making Restaurant Style Salsa

in #food8 years ago

I really enjoy eating Mexican food or anything that has a power punch of spices. I decided to make salsa. This was my first attempt at making restaurant style salsa. Trial and error , lesson learned. I began this culinary venture because store bought salsa is too expensive here in Thailand. You can easily make your own for a fraction of the cost at a supermarket. However, it might not taste the same as you're accustomed to. That being said it may take a few tries before you find the perfect texture and taste you want. Here are the ingredients that I used to make it.

1 can of peeled tomatoes
1/2 cup of diced onions (I chose white onions)
1/2 teaspoon of cumin (this is quite strong, depends if you like cumin)
2 cloves of garlic
2 Thai chili peppers (a little kick for heat)
1/2 teaspoon of salt
1/2 teaspoon of sugar
1 cup of cilantro leaves also known as coriander leaves. (They are the same thing. To save you the confusion at the grocery store.)

Optional ingredients
black pepper
jalapenos

Directions:
Put all the ingredients into the blender except for the cilantro. Set blender to pulse and give it a few spins. After you are satisfied with the texture add the cilantro in the blender and give it a few more pulses.
*You might want to drain the tomatoes before blending to limit the water content.

And this is how mine turned out. It was a little runny, but still good enough to eat. A very healthy snack, except for the chips. I will have to make those next.
