A Day in the Vegetable Garden

in #food9 years ago (edited)

Today was a great day to get in the garden, it was raining all week and i can finally get in the garden. I've been gardening for 10 years now and have mastered my own little natural garden without any pesticides, or any chemicals. I have tomatoes, sweet peppers, and cucumbers in the garden.
I depend on nature to get my garden right, so spiders, aphid predators, and bees are my best friends. Spiders yeah.... I found out my second year, one ugly spider claimed my tomato plant and the plant never got eaten by insects, but the other plants did. That's when i decided to not bother them there saving me money, i don't need chemicals in my garden. There is one spider that eats the ants that brings the aphids or any ground insects, wolf spiders... yes i have to make sure not to disturb the ground to much so they don't leave.
I plant flowers beside the vegetable garden to attract bees to the garden, and it works every year. I also have a rain barrel which of course is for my garden when it doesn't rain. I noticed with the rain water the plants are taller/bigger and the end product (vegs) taste better. So i attached pictures of my cucumber plant that has two cucumbers that are full grown... The plants height is about 6'2 right now. One of the cucumbers just touched the ground so its time to pick it, wash it, and eat it with a tad of salt.

Nice pictures, that cucumber plants tall.

wow that is a real natural garden, your tomato plant is pretty tall as well.

I have more pics ill try to make another post for the tomato plants. Thanks for the comment this is my favourite project, which also helps the environment in many ways by staying natural.

Thanks for that post. My brother has a garden, so far he got lettuces, but tomatoes are hard to grow.

Thank you. I find lettuces hard to grow, I will try to add it for my fall crop.

What a healthy garden you have there! I too love my vegie patch and made some delicious bread and butter cucumbers and some gherkin relish from my excess! Yummy!!
