Food in Tokyo, Japan

in #food7 years ago

In 2 days I will be leaving Tokyo and moving on to Osaka so I have taken some photos of my meals here. I usually do this so people can get an idea of what kind of food to expect if you ever want to travel to one of these places. Also I am a huge foodie and enjoy exploring the options for food wherever I am. So first to we will start with some of my favorite Japanese dishes.

So this dish is probably my favorite, it's a pork and rice dish. It comes with a cup of miso soup and a raw egg. So with this dish first you crack the raw egg open into the pork and rice then mix it all together. I have never had anything like this before and I was surprised at how much I enjoyed it. At this place and several other restaurants you walk up to a touch screen machine, order your food by clicking through the menu, selecting your dishes then putting your money into the machine. It will then print out a ticket that you hand to the waiter or waitress. It is a very efficient way of operating a restaurant and the food always comes fast at these types of places. Price at this place for this meal if I remember correctly was 550 yen. About 5 dollars.

This next place was very close to where we have been living so we frequently went there. The first image is a chicken and rice dish with some kind of soup. Both very good and really cheap, 230 yen for everything so like 2 dollars. My friend Eric was across from me and he had the same thing except he added 6 gyoza (dumplings). The 6 gyoza is only 130 yen so about 1 dollar. All of the food from this place has always been great and same goes for the service.

The next one is a food that I am sure most of you know, crepes. You can find crepes everywhere here which was a nice surprise. This particular one is strawberry with a piece of cheese cake in the middle. Yea it tasted as good as it sounds haha. They also had options for ice cream and chocolate if you prefer. This was just a small shack looking place in the Shinjuku area with one guy working there. I can't remember the price on this one but whatever it was, it was worth it.

I have to include a little something for the westerners who are wondering if they can get some standard food here as well. Thankfully there is no shortage of foreign food here in Tokyo. You can pretty much find whatever you want here. This burger was great it was from a British Pub that we went to for a meetup to play test a game that I have been working on. It was pretty good actually, I was quite satisfied so don't worry if you don't end up liking Japanese food they have a lot of other options for you.

A lot of people are probably wondering about the sushi here, yes I have had sushi here a number of times. I honestly forgot to take pictures but I will try to remember while I am in Osaka. As far as how it compares to sushi from back home or even in other countries, it's good but no different from what I had access to back home. It tastes great don't get me wrong I love sushi and sashimi but I didn't notice a big difference.

Well that's all for this post. I will do another in Osaka and wherever else I end up. If anyone has some recommendations on food I should try let me know in the comments below and I will give it a shot. Until the next one Peace.
