Master Carver: My uncle's work and incredible start

in #food8 years ago

How often have you been asked to do something you weren't able to do? This is the story of my Uncle and how a question just like that changed his life.

Things were different 20 years ago. Ray did not start out pursuing this. He was working for a chef and was asked if he could do this kind of work, he said he couldn't and was promptly informed he was fired. Without skipping a beat he said to ask him again, and this time, absolutely, yes I can. Wow, was he right.

Since then he has gone on to teach across the country, had his work on television and movies, he is a member of the National Ice Carving Association, and he has helped created fruit carvings at the White House. He also was a member of the winning team on the Food Network's "The Rematch: Fantasy Fruit Sculpture" and assistant chef on the Food Network's "Sugar Dome."

I hadn't seen as much of his work as I have putting this together. I hope you enjoy as much as I did.

And, the man himself in action!

It is not my intent to profit from his work. I have resisted posting this for some time after mentioning the site to his wife, my aunt, at our family reunion last month. It is a little much at it's current stage (ease of use) and I have not had follow up from him. As such all the steemdollars this post generates will go to him, and I am all ears about what would be fair for the steempower generated.

Currently, aside from facebook and twitter, this is his site to promote his work. Let's show him where talent is welcome shall we?

I close with one of my favorite pieces of his: Tulip Flower

Wow, these are gorgeous! :O Thanks for the back-story. Very inspiring. :)

He is really talented. Far more so than I knew before I started putting this together. Zero media savvy though lol. Thankfully with his talent his work has gotten him the exposure he needs. Still, would love to see him uploading tutorials and how-to type stuff. Would have a following here for sure. Thank you for your kind comment.

Wow. Incredible talent!!

Really is. I watched hima couple times when he lived close.... he wasn't doing anything near these levels back then, but it was crazy nonetheless

These are a real work of art! How stunning :)

How long does one take to make?

Really not long at all. I watched some of his videos and it's speedy. I guess it has to be when your working with fruit for a display and keeping it all fresh.
