A custard apple is a tropical fruit native to parts of Central and South America, known scientifically as Annona reticulata. This unique fruit is closely related to prickly pears, sugar apples and a variety of citrus fruits. This fruit grows on shrubs and can be called Sharifa (Indian) or bullock’s heart, depending on where you are in the world. The fruits grow from different ovaries and combine into one fruit, slightly larger than apple candies and rough on the outside. It is vaguely heart-shaped and has different varieties, which means that it can be of different colors, including brown, green, brown or yellow.
