assiette d'ingéniosité - Or how I made pantry items into something to look forward to

in #food7 years ago

I opened my cabinet above the sink, hopelessly looking for something quick and tasty to eat. However due to my lack of employment I didn't have my go-to snacks which made what I currently had feel even blander. I didn't have much time to think about how I was wasting my taste buds, as the dull sensation of hunger encroached my stomach. It was then I decided to go to the food pantry on campus in order to extinguish my hunger.

Thanks to the pantry, I was able to get up to 7 lbs of what I needed, they sort things out by proteins, carbs and miscellaneous so you know what you need for any occasion. If you're a student who lives on campus, I highly recommend any programs your school has that deal with this.

I was able to get a fantastic haul, they had my favorite flavor of baked beans and they had brown rice which I highly recommend. The canned chicken on its own is a chore to finish but with what I'm about to show you it has become a welcomed addition to my meal plan.

First I placed olive oil in the pan and then the chicken. I then layered it with salt, pepper, and adobo seasoning. I set it on high and constantly mashed it for better consistency and to make sure everything got cooked all the way though.

While I did that, I placed the beans in one pot and some water in the other to boil. The beans I left alone to simmer (because in my opinion these are the best beans you can get on the planet, hands down) and after 20 minutes, I placed the rice in after I rinsed them off. I then placed the chicken on low, stirring occasionally.

After another 25 minutes, I drained the rice of any excess water, and let it steam for a while. By this time, everything else was on low to not let it burn.

This is the result.
Thanks to the oil, the chicken has a golden brown outer shell of deliciousness and none of the cold sliminess that eating straight from the can gets you. I'm not the best with rice but this came out alright. The beans were great by default, so no worries there.

In the future, because this was such a fun learning experience, I might grab some more things from the pantry in order to cook and not just snack on.

P.S. check out my new banner, I made it by looking up "How To Create an 80's Style Chrome Logo Text Effect in Photoshop" by spoon graphics on youtube.

P.S.S. I also made a couple shirts that I think are pretty cool, check them out and feel free to give some feedback https://www.etsy.com/shop/ClothingByCWise
