You have spent a lot of effort learning a lot about mushrooms! I bet you have Redbuds blooming in the spring, while you are out looking for early mushrooms. They bloom before the white-flowering Dogwoods that everyone likes so much. I hope you find some Redbuds around you. They are an easy tree to identify, rock solid, when they are blooming.
I'm going to keep my eyes open - they seem fairly distinct and they do grow in my region. Plus I would get a kick out of eating a salad made with flowers :)
Redbuds are a charismatic plant compared to some of the edible mushrooms, lol. It's a lot easier for someone to take a first taste of a redbud flower, for sure!
