Chicken of the Woods
While hiking today I spotted a 2 crops of beautiful and edible mushroom.
It is know as the 'chicken of the woods' or Laetiporus
This mushroom, if baked, is delicious, and tastes like chicken.
This makes it a great alternative for vegetarians. In many countries,
it is considered a delicacy.
and the other one, beautiful thick brackets!
it is advised, to cut the mushroom from the stem, so that the stem
can grow into a new batch. The mushroom can be prepared
just like chicken meat. Only eat young, healthy and clean brackets.
Check for insects and worm holes once cut. This mushroom
usually grows on oak trees, often dead ones. Below is the mushroom shown
fried in batter.
Enjoy!
