Smelly Bean (臭豆) for today's lunch

Today's lunch is a little special. the main course is smelly bean (臭豆) cooked with big onion and chili. with side dish, Japanese style soft boiled egg (溏心蛋)and cucumber slice. My lunch for today is these dishes and top with a little rice..

The main course is smelly bean (臭豆) cooked with big onion and chilli. It is a season now for the smelly bean to be harvest. This smelly bean (臭豆) is commonly available in Malaysia most of the months but it is available plentiful during it season. Most of the cooking style for this smelly bean is spicy in nature. some believe that this smelly bean has medical value especially with diabetics patients. However I have not seen any authority to acknowledge this article.

why it is called smelly bean (臭豆)? the bean is actually has a strong aroma to most people it is smelly especially when it is eaten raw. It is also called smelly bean because every after it is digested, the stool and urine has a strong smell that lasted for next 1-2 days.

However, the smell will be lessen when you consume the smelly bean (臭豆) together with raw cucumber. I have no idea why it is so but it is easy to find out yourself
