Lori and I decided to try the Lacey Diner, located at 530 Lacey Road in Forked River, New Jersey, for the first time since the new owners took over the business. While "I Love Lucy" was promoted all around the restaurant, "Gilligan's Island" was actually playing on their big screen. This gave the eatery a nice family and old-timey kind of feel. I was thinking of those luncheonettes of the past where everyone was friendly and you left the place with a smile on your face. Lori went right to the breakfast part of the menu by ordering an omelette and all I know is that when she was done, she stated "this is my new favorite place."
There were so many delicious options to try but my eyes kept drifting back to their version of a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. You may not believe me by me telling you that this was no ordinary peanut butter and jelly sandwich but I guarantee that this common lunch sandwich has been elevated to the next level. This is their Fried PB&J! I chose to have grape jelly with my peanut butter on white bread. The sandwich is then submerged into a cornflake batter before it is deep fried. To top it all off, a honey drizzle is applied to the finished product. This sandwich was a piece of heaven.
The sandwich comes with french fries, a pickle slice and potato salad, which can be substituted with other options. Not only did I leave with a smile but I felt like I traveled through time back to 1968, which I won't tell you how old I was then so you can't figure out my current age! I know I will be back here again and after hearing Lori's comment, she won't fight me on that! Check out their facebook page!
