More Than A Diner

Always looking for new restaurants to try, I decided that I needed to look into Manahawkin, New Jersey, more. 39° North, located on 32 East Bay Avenue, appeared to be an ordinary diner but once inside, I realized it was so much more. There were many choices on the menu that looked good, but because I was dying foe some good chicken skin, I went with the Half Rotisserie Chicken. Yes, I love skin, turkey or chicken. Some people still believe this is bad for you, but I have heard conflicting reports. And I learned from past experiences that the first thing you read is not always the right thing.

This very flavorful chicken rested on a bed of corn bread stuffing, which was absolutely delicious, especially the crispy parts. Mashed potatoes and steamed broccoli also accompanied the bird. I started the meal off with a cup of chicken noodle soup that was extremely hot. This is exactly the way I like my soup. I ordered soup one time at another restaurant that should have come with a glass of ice. It was actually that cold!

For dessert, I had rice pudding with just the right amount of cinnamon sprinkled on top and drizzled with caramel sauce. Their unsweetened iced tea was the perfect choice to satisfy my thirst. Their kitchen must be very clean! No, I didn't force my way into their kitchen. However, I learned from doing restaurant reviews for awhile that if their restroom is spotless, you know the rest of the place is. I will definitely be heading back here to try the other dishes. They serve breakfast all day and also have some non-traditional items on their menu.
