It was a cold Tuesday evening. However, my better half and I still decided to drive to the Silverton section of Toms River to try a Mexican restaurant that we haven't been to since their opening this past November, Sofia's Taqueria Taco & Tequila Bar. Upon entering the parking lot around 6:30pm, we got the feeling that there would be a little wait by the amount of cars in the lot. We weren't wrong as we were told there would be about a twenty minute wait, which isn't bad considering we had to park in the far end of the rear of the lot.

As we sat at the bar enjoying our Killer Cactiis, we received the call that our table was ready well under the twenty minute time frame. While Lori enjoyed her Skirt Steak Chimichanga, I was enjoying my three small plate dishes that I ordered for my dinner. The first of which were the Beef Empanadas. This dish contained seasoned beef, Yukon Gold Potatoes, caramelized onions and Chimichurri Crema. The plating was beautiful as one of the empanadas was cut in half and strategically placed up against the other one. I don't believe I ever tasted a more flavorful empanada!

My second dish was the Bay Street Corn. This dish contained fire-grilled corn, Chili-Garlic Aioli, Smoked Paprika, Cotija Cheese and cilantro. This bowl was not only very filling but also extremely tasty. I wasn't sure how I would feel about the dish because it wasn't on the cob like the Mexican Street Corn variety. However, I was blown away by how more flavorful this variety was over the other one.

My third dish was the Chicken Tortilla Soup. The contents of this soup included roasted chicken, tomato broth, grilled corn, Pinto Beans and tortilla confetti. Once again, they somehow managed to pack in more flavor than other versions that I have had in the past of this soup. Believe it or not, I wasn't able to finish all of these plates because they were very filling. It was also a plus that they have Mexican Coke, which contains real sugar as opposed to High Fructose Corn Syrup.

While were having our dinner, there must have been at least five different parties celebrating birthdays. We heard the music and instead of a traditional candle, it appeared that the wait staff brought dessert with a Roman Candle on top. They also carried a rooster (not real) out to each birthday table.

The place also has a Tequila Room, which can be reserved for a party of up to twelve people, with a minimum total bill of $2500.00 required. The staff was very helpful, attentive and knowledgeable. That alone was a breath of fresh air!
