Salteña is a traditional Bolivian type of pastry, filled with either chicken, beef or pork, small pieces of potatoes, peas, small pieces of hard boiled eggs and olives.
What makes the salteña unique is the way how it is consumed. Salteñas are hard from the outside, and contain a lot of flavorful juices on the inside, so one has to be careful with every bite in order not to spill them.
People eat salteñas in the morning, and they are very difficult to find after 12 o'clock. A lot of people prefer eating them on the go, which by itself is a skillful endeavour, one which Bolivians learn from the earliest age.
If you happen to visit Bolivia at some point, you have to try the salteña. You will love it!
