Cookies And Cream Cupcakes
One of my dear friends scored a pretty excellent new job this past week. Round here, when something magnificent occurs, celebratory comestibles are usually created and consumed. I also understand that I probably utilized an entire post quota worth of c's in that last sentence. It has been noted.
Anyhoo, my pal likes Oreos, a fact that I actually remember. These days I can't remember what I walked to the bathroom for as I am trying to mentally juggle the plot of a serialized small story, basketball practice times, 4-H curriculum strategies, and a plethora of mom and wife things, but I can seem to remember people's favorite sweets on demand, so at least the most important part of my brain is still functioning. Heh.
During a mad dash to our local small city on Saturday, I picked up a couple packages of Oreos. The night before I had baked a couple of dozen of white buttermilk cupcakes. I am sure that I have discussed my reasoning behind always cooking my cakes the day before they are eaten, but since I can't remember if I have or not, I will do so here. Cakes taste SO much better the second day. I bake mine, cover them with plastic wrap after they cool, and store the cake or cakes in a secure place. You do not want your pregnant hound dog or snack hungry offspring to eat the cake.
After returning from town yesterday, I got out a stick of butter, a half a cup of shortening, four cups of powdered sugar, a teaspoon of vanilla extract, and my ever-present-in-the-fridge whipping cream. I creamed the butter and shortening together, added the vanilla, powdered sugar, and some cream, and whipped up a nice fluffy frosting. To be honest, I always eyeball the amount of liquid that I add to a frosting. I imagine that I used somewhere between 3-4 Tablespoons of whipping cream.
Next came the fun part. Or at least the cathartic part. There is something sort of fulfilling about grinding up a half a package of Oreo cookies in the food processor. I mean, the cookies are a complete foodstuff, and pulverizing them into crumbs feels a bit naughty. It's okay, I know I am bit of a loon, but you can remind me of that fact in the comments for a bit of post drama if any of you wish to do so.
That half a package of Oreos yielded around a cup of cookie crumbs, and I plopped those glorious flavor bits into my buttercream frosting and whipped the Nabisco right out of it! I then got out one of my super fancy piping bags. By fancy, of course, I mean that I snipped the end off of a quart Ziplock bag and stuffed it full of the cookies and cream frosting. Faster than a toddler can say Double Stuff I had the cupcakes piped with frosting and garnished with additional Oreos.
There is no shame emanating from me as I type this cupcake confession, for I ate two of glorious confections. One of my friends ate at least half a dozen. The cupcakes really were rather tasty. It was, however, another activity that I engaged in with the cupcakes that made my whole day. Yesterday, I spent most of the morning and afternoon with my daughter. We had to do fun things like buy pants and deliver our family's contribution to our 4-H club's fundraising auction basket. In a moment of creative genius I asked my daughter to snap a picture of me demonstrating the fine art of cupcake voguing. I'm not much of a dancer, but I sure can pose with a baked good like it's nobodies bidness!
Delicious and evil. Nice shot, Kat. Lucky friend both with the job and having you around:)
Awe, thank ye my friend! How are you doing up there in that lovely province of yours?
The winter has been relatively dry. A sunny day is a good day:)
These look awesome! Oreos are my fav, your friend must have been pretty happy scoring the new job and getting such a delicious surprise ;)
Thank you so much!! My friends are pretty spoiled lol! Next week I am crafting a from scratch strawberry pie for another friend, looking forward to that for sure lol!

Presentation is everything ! Seeing your cupcake photo makes me want one. :)
Ooh! I hope that you found a cupcake...or two!:O)
Strike a pose Wow and such confectionery attitude as well lol!
Oh I experience the walking into a room to get something and forgetting what I wanted by time I get there. I tell ya this getting old business is simply annoying!
Ha ha, a confectionery attitude, I love that!
You know what, I am going to work the forgetful thing, I'll just remind myself in the moment that the thing I am forgetting wasn't that important anyway, it'll totally work. Well, unless it is to turn off the burner or something, but I am not going to nitpick, LOL! And you are not that old, I got told the other day I am medium aged, I like the sound of that descriptor.:)
Oh, Vogue!! Where are you?
I almost choked on the gridlocked traffic of verbiage in the first paragraph! I had to read it over three times because I can't believe you could use it all and it still made perfect sense. You be the queen!!
This was definitely a sweet piece, Kat. No two ways about it! I have a friend who is a baker by trade and it was one of the things she always told me to do was make the cakes the day before. And she was right. The flavors have a chance to settle down and make friends. And they also hold the frosting better. (To me)
Life sure does get hectic, doesn't it? Then you have children and hello-dolly. You are thrown in the high-speed blender of fun.
Well, you sure a good friend and naughty too! Crushing up that confection! Oh! I have an oreo cookie dessert that I have to crush up TWO whole packages, but, secretly I love doing it. Hehe... because if you crush them up, the calories don't count. Seriously.
Cute photo op. You are just as freaking cute as you sound on paper. And you look like you could melt butter. Oh, yes! The dangerous, sweet looking innocent.
Upped and Steemed
!tip of the day. Write more!!! ;))
Awe D, you are just the nicest, the Empress of all that is flattering and kind. Most days I feel like the Queen of the Flibbertygibbets, ha ha ha!
Oh to chill next to the baker's rack at your friend's establishment would be so grand, I would love to observe the baking greatness and glean tidbits of cookery from a master. I wish I could eat more sugar, if I eat it more than once a week the only thing that holds frosting well would be my own personal muffintop. heh.
Your Oreo cookie dessert sounds most intriguing, I am a sucker for anything that contains Oreos and/or peanut butter cups! It is nice to pop out of life's blender once in a while for a bit of correspondence back and forth with cool peeps such as yourself. I am looking forward to the days that I can spend hours of my time applying pen to paper and fingertips to keyboard. Oh the things I will ramble on about! Thank you so, so much for being so excellent, I love seeing posts and comments of yours!!!
💖💕 This kind of sugar doesn't count!

Hello friend a few days ago that did not pass through here but I'm taking everything back.
Oreo delicious I have a lot of time that I do not eat a chocolate oreo with a glass of milk now I want one of these oreo cakes, I think I can imagine while I eat them
Congratulations for your friend's new job
Hi there, I am so glad that you did pass through here, it's great to hear from you!!
Thank you so much for the well wishes, and I hope that you found an oreo or something sweet to nibble on:)
Oh, maybe only 1/8 loon, and we wouldn't want it any other way ( :
(Large smile, nothing worse than getting pounded by an irate cupcake'r through the wires). Your little creations do look rather divine. I don't know HOW you can stop woofing them down at only a couple when making them, though. Or just squeezing the baggie full of goodness right down the old baker's gullet. OK, I probably should not be left un-supervised in the kitchen during a baked goods process.
You are such a great friend to make these sorts of things. I'm sure they greatly appreciate you and all your effort. I know we do. And the fact you treat them like Italian food, waiting till they 'stew' a day or two, is quite a classic. I never knew that (and hearkening back to that first paragraph, brings up question number 3, how DO they last another day longer? Even hiding them from the horde.)
Love your dancing with the cakes photo. I'm thinking you should be on the box of your very own homemade cupcakes mix. Call it KatKakes or something of the like. I think it would be a HUGE success. At least in the land of Schteinn it would.
Well, I'm off to mend the neighbors flower box. Grass is rapidly taking it back to Mother Earth. Cheers to you on a Monday and hope your world is swimming along well and happy like a guppy in a big bowl of crushed Oreo goo. Oh, lucky fishes.
You want to hear something horrifying? I rarely eat sugar, so there are times that I make treats for others and don't even eat any of them, at all! My kids really spazz about it, but I learned that I just can't eat a lot of sugar and be the rambunctious Kat that I need and want to be. But. There are those times when the oreo cupcakes appear and look so darned smashing that I have to ingest a couple. LOL!
And I would never toss digital cake stuffs at ya for referring to me as a waterfowl, well part waterfowl, I would throw the cake to start a food fight, for fun and stuff!
I have a cupboard that I hide the flavorlating comestibles in for their stewing time. If my family can't see a food item, it doesn't exist. I call this phenomenon the RL paradox after my Pa. Mom would ask him to get something like the mayo out of the fridge, and if it wasn't at eye level, directly in front of his face, it didn't exist. The same principle works with my peeps and goodies, lol lol!
Awe, you need your own couple of dozen of KatKakes, perhaps someday you will be the friend that gets a batch. I would love to deliver them to you in a gigantic skillet, ha ha ha!
Well, my dear pan of amiable fry, after a particularly vigorous kickboxing class, I am feeling a bit like a coelenterate organism, lacking a bit of spine. Off to the bedtime realm for moi! Nighty night!!!
K
Foodfight!!!
Ooh, an Oreo delight, GK cupcake foodfight. How grand would THAT be? !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And a few to grow (rounder) on !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You need a little cushioning when one fights, especially a food fight, so eat up! LOL!
A grand excuse is born
Oh GK, ya cracks me up. Cheerio(s) kickboxer EXT.
I LOVE kickboxing! It's therapeutic, all that jabbing and kicking, ha ha ha! Glad it amuses you too:)
Just don't mess with the 'brarekat in a dark alley. Can you say yowzaandbruisedtonoend.
I can't see any Steemit photos today, and that may be just as well, because I'd be seriously craving a cupcake! As it is, just the mention of Oreos has caused cooky thoughts. At least my appetite is back!
Oh! I am so glad you are feeling a bit better. I have heard a bit about your trials:( I will bring you a cupcake or two at some point, it's on the list!
I also posted about said trials, if you want gory details. LOL
