Brew's Job Restaurant - Chiang Mai: Cheap but not very good

in #food6 years ago

I saw their sign outside for a 70B breakfast that had an egg fried in the middle of a piece of bread. I figured I would give it a try but to be totally honest, it is very unlikely I will ever return.

The interior of this place is actually very appealing to me. They had air con, there was a collection of vintage bikes and and a mish-mash of other collectibles, plus there was light, Starbucksy music playing. It was a nice ambiance.

The staff (well, it was only one person running the whole place) was attentive and friendly and she took my order immediately and understood English (I don't reveal that I can speak Thai when i go to these places - just to test them.) I was excited about receiving my very first "egg in a hole."

It was pretty underwhelming to say the least, but i suppose I shouldn't complain too much considering that it was 70 Baht (just over $2.) I opted out of the hot dogs that were meant to come with it because that just makes me mad when people serve hot dogs and call them "sausages" - which I suppose they technically are but I think it is a bit deceptive.

Perhaps it is just a fundamental misunderstanding about what this is supposed to be on their part, but she cooked the ever-living crap out of this thing. There was no liquidity to the yolk whatsoever. It was not good but i suppose it could still be considered food.

I'm 6 foot tall and weigh nearly 200 pounds. This was not going to be enough food for me. Once again, this establishment is located smack in the center of the tourist part of town so I was surprised at the low prices but expected a better knowledge of western food and how it is prepared.

To be fair to them, i think that their primary function (as their name would suggest) is coffee by day and micro-brews by night (they had a lot of them.) So if you are looking for an exotic I.P.A. then this place might fit the bill. However, I can't recommend eating their breakfast.

Thought my travel in Thailand, many restaurant offer western good like pancakes and muesli for breakfast but similar to your experience, it's not at all similar to how we make it in the western world

yeah, sometimes i wish these places would either learn how to do it correctly or just serve what they know because I am perfectly happy to have a Thai breakfast such as some boiled chicken on rice. Live and learn!

Absolutely. The disappointed could be spared if they don't serve what they can't do good at

the place looks good from your post.. you should have asked for a customer survey form, may be they have it, so that they can improve whatever it is that they need to improve..
