There's many sources of cracks in melons, some are bad, some are good, but the most common is a natural phenomenon where the melon becomes extremely ripe (and sweet!) on the vine and begins to stretch.
This causes melons to have a crack inside that is dry. If the crack is dry and fuzzy that just means it's really ripe.
