in #food7 years ago (edited)

I had the opportunity visiting a friend in the south a town called Surat Thani he lived about 80 km from the city center more in the lush green country side. He was a graduate successful lawyer and he's father was a professional breeder of frog farms. Now i had never had a appetite or taste for frogs when my lawyer friend starting talking about eating frogs well my skin just cringed thinking about it of course he laughed at me and said you don't know what your missing out on.

The frog or known as “Kob” กบ....has become quite a delicacy in Thailand. Frogs became a staple in the Thai diet amongst the farmers originally as they were plentiful in the rice fields and jungle cause of the damp conditions because meat was scarce and expensive it was not affordable by a average household farmer so frogs became there source of protein thus the frog leaped out of there rice fields into there fry pan.

After arriving at my friend's farm and seeing the frog farm in live action and seeing how a clean environment they were been breed in and been told over and over again that i needed to try this delicacy i was just about convinced that well it wont kill me to try. That night they had the the fire barbecue going with a variety of spices sitting on a table near by spices like fresh chili sauce, fish oil, chili paste and lime juice. After the frogs had been on the barbecue for about 15 minutes and been flipped around a few times while having some spices sprinkle on them and looking a little charcoal burnt believe me they were smelling very tasty it was time to find out what all the fuss was about. Well let me tell you if you didn't know it was frog it was like eating chicken only a lot better tasting, tender, fat-less and mouth watering mixed with some lime and chili just melted in your mouth never could of imaged it would have turned out to be just a authentic mouth watering meal.

My Friend's House a very modern style and huge size property, frog framing is a very profitable business in Thailand. Frog cultivating has become quite a demand in Thailand most frog farmers are making a reasonable lucrative living from breeding frogs.

There are many ways and recipes in how to eat frogs....Barbecued, Deep Fried, Done in Curry, Marinated and the list goes on in the Thai markets you can buy frogs that have already been skinned and cleaned up for a very low cost compare to western prices ( $3 to $4 a kilo ) a must try if you have the taste for frogs i myself have eaten them every way possible since my introduction to the cuisines of frogs.

They look like small chickens, what do they taste like? Chickens?

Yeah they do look like small chickens a lot more muscly looking though, the meat is a lot more tender and fat-less very tasty i like 'em better more then chicken meat.

Geez. Those are some seriously big looking frogs. You should add posts like this to the #culturevulture challenge.

They say the bigger the frog more meat and more tender and yes will look into adding this post to #culturevulture . Thank you.
