Cercis siliquastrum. Maybe there are some around in neighborhoods and parks in your region, for landscaping. They are such a pretty little flower -- and tasty! :DI know @sardrt has posted pictures of Redbuds from Sardinia, but I think their common name in that region is the Judas Tree. It's a different species,

I know the name Judas Tree... But I still don't think I have seen it here. Also if it is not in bloom it will hard to recognize :)
haha -- they don't stand out much in the summer, very true! But their yellow leaves in the fall will be calling out for your attention!
Maybe I will look for that. Though I have a lovely yellow linden tree right outside my window and a little bit further is a Ginkgo.... stunning autumn yellow leaves :)

You have some good leaf-eating with that linden! They are in my top 5 favorite tree leaves to eat!
Really? Do they have to be young?
The leaves don't get bitter or toxic as they mature, they just get tough. But just like the leaves of the mulberry in my Free Hotel Salad - Wild Style, if you get the newer leaves from actively growing branch tips, they will still be good. Here in Oregon's Willamette Valley, the European linden are done since the trees are putting all their energy into flowering. But those trees don't move from year to year, so you can count on them in the spring and early summer! You, too, can become a human giraffe! :D
I will have to try that then :)
I remember when I little I was eating leaf buds from that tree. Not sure if that is the right name. Right before the leaves pop they have those swollen buds... those were nice :)
Nop, they definitely don't move :p
