Tzatziki is absolutely not a typical Belgian dish but as a good Belgian I eat a little bit of everything. Especially now in summertime... As soon as the sun is shining every Belgian family father cleans up his BBQ and we try to grill as much as possible!
A BBQ in Belgium is not just one recipe, no, you have to mix all kind of meats and side dishes that nobody would mix in normal circumstances.
And that is the reason that I eat steak, chicken or sausages with Tzatziki from time to time.
What is Tzatziki?
Tzatziki is a Greek dish. It is made of yogurt mixed with cucumbers, garlic, salt, and olive oil.
It is served cold and it is ideal as a dip.
And what the hell is Tomatziki??
Well, I'm not sure if I just invented it or if it is know under another name... A Google search on Tomatziki gives me no results.
You just make a traditional Tzatziki and you add a few drops of tabasco and quite a lot of tomato ketchup. Your sauce will become red (of course...) and it will have a light tomato flavour.
Very simple but my guests loved it and with the ketchup in it you can also say that this is the American version of a typical Greek recipe. ;-)
