Keong Saik Bakery – Traditional Vibes Meets Contemporary Bakes. Matcha Salted Egg Buns And Black Danish Pastry

in #food7 years ago

The naming of this bakery after the street name was no longer suitable for characterizing this modernized café. (Has Tiong Bahru bakery not the same few years back?)

Keong Saik Bakery shows a view of traditional vibes through their contemporary bakes and coffee
When you enter the town you will be greeted by a huge wall wall that contains historical information that would illuminate the heritage of Keong Saik Road.
While you are updating on history lessons, your smell is then tickled by the buttery scent of the cheeks along with the aroma of Nanyang Old Coffee.
Or those who need your traditional coffee, copi-o and teh-o are available.

There is also the possibility to extract traditional mixtures with espresso machine to achieve a darker roast version of "flat-white" aka kopi-susu.

Makes caffeine fix, I like.

Your assortment of baking comes with interesting names and oriental aromas.

For example, XO Lap Cheong (Cured sausage) with cheese, Orh Tao Roti (Yam) and Pineapple Melon Pan.
I went for her signature, Sor Hei ($ 3.20), who after the traditional ceremony 梳起 (comb-up) as a homage to the previous shop owner, of a Majie (妈 姐) - traditional women who called Domestic workers were named workers and praised not to marry.
This was shaped by the black and white Danish pastry with chocolate chip, which was combed into the shape of the hair in a bun.

I liked his flaky crust, which came in an abundance of buttery scent along with melted chocolate chips. But I secretly secretly for more chocolate chips that would provide extra bite texture. Another creation that caught my attention was the cute green egg buns ($ 2.80), a soft fluffy bun wrapped in percolated Matcha salted egg fillings. * Slurps *

The lava filling was not overly sweet, and I liked them to spread the bun with a layer of matcha power for a touch of bitterness.
On one side note, Keong Saik Bakery offers all-day breakfast set that comes with a selected bread of choice, coffee and 2 soft boiled egg at $ 5.

For the quality of the baking I would say it is a good value for money.
Unlike bread, they also have a selection of cakes that has a light Asian touch. Flavors such as Gula Jawa Sticky Rice (Coconut Sugar), Lucy (Pandan Cheesecake), and Golden Blossom (Chrysanthemum) are available from $ 5.50.

Her bestseller Chendol Delight ($ 6.50) probably crowned with the locals with his rich and smooth coconut custard embedded with red bean, attack and pandan jelly.
