This is our family’s first year celebrating Hanukkah. I was on Pinterest one day, and found some recipes for Hanukkah dishes. I found this one for cinnamon roll challah and decided to give it a shot!
This lady makes hers right on the counter. I figured I better follow instructions and do mine that way, too. Well, I had to take care of something and left my mound of flour full of liquids for a moment. My husband then told me it was starting to run down the counter. Uh Oh! Since he didn’t want to touch the raw eggs with his bare hands, I had to hurry up and regain control of the situation. I wanted to get some pictures during the process... but I forgot during the whole fiasco.
My daughter was having fun pretending to knead her own challah along with me. She even had to clean off her sticky fingers. Anyways, the bread turned out alright in the end.
I really have no idea how anyone gets their dishes and baked goods to look so picture perfect. Obviously mine did not turn out that way. But it is delicious nonetheless!

Looks really good! I am glad to see another family embrace walking this walk! This is year 4 for me!
Thank you! I bet you have things a little more figured out than we do haha
Maybe a little...I find that the more you do the Feasts and Hanukkah the more familiar it becomes. I can also tell you that, at least for me, I find that I don't do the same thing from year to year. As you grow into all of this you will find a good balance in what works for your family as well as being as Biblically correct as you can while at the same time making sure that "man made traditions" don't get in the way and take away the meaning!
I would never post a picture of anything I made. Most of the time it's edible, but you'd never know it by looking at it.
I think yours looks great!
Thank you! Taste is what matters in the end.
YEAH me too! No matter the appearance... 95% of the time the taste is good. I never score points for presentation either!
Hi golden glad to see you again. I know that old saying about the presentation being a big factor in the enjoyment of our food, but presentation cannot make up for a yucky taste. Bring on the good stuff. Taste is my final criteria. Have a great day.
I’m sure they must put a Lot if work into their presentation, or they are just that good! Lol
Hi, ms. h. I hope you have a lovely Hanukkah. Your bread looks fabulous. I would certainly tear into it with glee. I like entering the cooking contests they have here on steemit and I am blown away about how pretty some of those pictures are, too. But we can't all be fashion models or food designers. lol. Our families love us with all our flaws and we dig into our soup bowls with grateful hearts and smacking lips. Keep the pictures coming and the dreidles spinning.
Thank you so much! Some are just more blessed than others in the food designing department for sure. I will do my best!
Food nurtures the body while scriptures feed the soul.
Such a blessing to know more are coming together in the The Way...
That looks delicious and amazing, im always skeptical of any food that looks 'too good' like those photos on the cheerios box that get made with glue! Yours looks real and i love the story behind it!!
I hope you all have a very blessed Hanukkah feast and enjoy learning and doing something new. Our first year was really kind of a let down with not knowing what to do to celebrate and my oldest having known xmas..... ive been working really hard to make it fun and exciting but in its own way. If you have any ideas or suggestions, I'm all ears! Always wonderful to find similar minded people! And i just found two from your post! Thanks so much!
Thank you! And I agree, I am finding a lot of like minded people here on Steemit, which is awesome. As of right now, I don’t know of anyone nearby that walks this way, so I’m finding support on this platform.
Its a really great community and even those who do not tread the same path are very respectful and uplifting to our ideas and traditions* (for lack of better words) and really so gracious. I feel like steemit need to creep into everybodys lives so they will see that you can come from many different walks and still be able to interact and conversate in a well mannered behaviour that has the best influence of esteem. I have seen a few bots trying to make quick money and only a couple of people using unoriginal content, but that gets weeded out quickly and whats left is amazing!!
