I've been disclosing a tad bit of information about me in every post so you people can know me better. To keep the tradition, here goes another one: I live in Brazil!
Yeah, that's right! Brazil, the land of football (sorry, my fellow americans, but it's not soccer :p), samba, beautiful women and, of course, good food! These are just some stereotypes, but I can say that they're valid ones, since these details are mostly true, although samba has more african roots than what people are led to believe.
Our flag! Beautiful and notorious! Come visit us someday, já é?
A big chunk of our culture is greatly revolved around our food. Why? Because we have a natural spirit of forming bonds, hence we being known as one of the most welcoming people in the world. It's hot in here, but we don't care about hugging someone really tight when we greet someone, known or not.
I'm going to start a series of quick and easy brazilian food recipes with a very simplified and fun walkthrough that everyone around the world can try to do. I don't like to use exact measure, since most brazilians tend to be empiric in their learning ventures, but since it's a tutorial aimed for dummies, I'll show the exact quantities you'll need of each ingredient, so no need to be scared! The ingredients we use can be easily found in your nearest grocery store, so there's not the need to walk aimlessly to find something you've never heard of.
To kickstart our series, I chose a very simple and extremely tasty sweet that is very common around here, no matter if you're at a kid's party or if you're alone at home and is looking for something different to eat. You can do it in less than 15 minutes and it'll be ready to eat in 30, tops.
Ladies and gentlemen, this is the Brigadeiro sweet!
It's as easy to do as it is yummy. Both kids and adults are gonna lick their fingers clean and crave for more
Ingredients
- 1 can or pack of condensed milk (395g)
- 2 generous teaspoons of butter (salty or not, that's on you)
- 5 spoons of sweet chocolate powder
- 2 spoons of cocoa powder
- A pack of granulated chocolate
This is what granulated chocolate looks like. This is for the final touch
How to
- Light up the stove with moderate fire
- Add the butter and twirl the pan until it melts and creates a thin layer and turns homogeneous
- Add both the chocolate and cocoa
- Add the condensed milk
- Stir firmly but gently, non-stop. It's very important you don't stop stirring, otherwise some of the mix is gonna burn and crispy balls of burned chocolate will appear. They don't taste too well
- Once you realise the mix is not gripping on the bottom of the pan anymore, put out the fire but keep stirring for a few minutes more
This is how the mix should look like: delicious and glossy!
- Once you've reached a result similar to the one in the picture above, drop the brigadeiro from the pan to a plate and put it on the freezer for about 15 minutes in order to let it chill a tad
- Be careful to not let it freeze. You must still feel it a bit warm so you're gonna be able to pick some little balls with a small spoon
- In the meantime, add the granulated chocolate to a bowl or another plate
- Put some butter on the palm of your hand and pick some of the mix with a teaspoon. Don't be afraid to pick it! The more you get, the bigger the balls
Just like that. See? Fun and easy!
Roll the mix in order to make a ball out of it and drop it into the granulated chocolate
Roll the ball across the granulated chocolate until it's entirely covered
Voilà! Simple and tasty!
Your support is very important! Please upvote, share and, of course, try it! It's easy and it's totally worth it! But don't eat too much, otherwise you'll find yourself going to the bathroom more often than you actually do :p
