The Original Nachos by Jeronimo Rubio
The Original Nachos were created by a (now considered legendary) maître d’ who went by the name Ignacio Anaya. He through together (Out of necessity) the very first batch of Nachos for a group of very hungry U.S. military wives at a restaurant he worked at named the "Victory Club" in a city, inside the border of #Mexico, called Piedras Negras which was located near Fort Duncan. He named the dish after his nickname, Nacho, and the rest is history.
While nachos are well known and generally served at both #Mexican or #Mexican-American restaurants these days, they are not considered a Traditional Mexican Food. And all though Nachos were first created in Mexico by a Mexican Man, in reality, they were created for a group of American Soldiers, Wives. In Accordance with Josh Chetwynd, who authored the Book “How the Hot Dog Found its Bun,” Nachos were, in fact, the result of a little creative thinking — and a Chef who was missing.
So how does this story go? Well, let me begin. During the time of the Second World War, some wives of some Officers in the American Military, who at this time lived within the community of the Eagle Pass. Texas. base Station would quite often travel into Mexico, over the bridge which crossed over the Rio Grande River. They would end up in the town of Piedras Negras in Mexico. During one of their many trips over the Bridge, a group of Service Mens Wives happened to stop at the Victory Club Restaurant that day. It was a very popular restaurant, for a good Mexican Meal. Although the maitre d’, Ignacio Anaya, who was happy to be receiving business and who original met with this group of women at the entrance to the restaurant, Ignacio, Better known as "Nacho", found himself in a very awkward situation that day.
He was having big problems locating the Chef anywhere. As a very good employee, he didn't want to send business away from the Restaurant so, he put on a Chefs hat and began putting together a dish which would become legendary in History. As he scrambled around the Kitchen looking for something to prepare for his customers, he found different items to toss together which according to the book, “The Oxford Companion to American Food and Drink” contained neatly filled canapes of freshly prepared tortilla chips, some American Cheddar cheese topped with jalapeno peppers.”
And so the nacho was born. All due to a missing chef and a fast thinking maître d’. Who was a very loyal employee with a very creative mind. So go out and Grab some NACHOS and Eat away, My Friends!!!
So I hope you enjoyed this brief look back in History and enjoyed it. I myself Love #Nachos!! Do you? Like and Share and please, leave a comment (With a Photo of you and your plate of Nachos) for everyone else to enjoy. Have a Blessed Day. Love Jeronimo Rubio
