Pizza Pizza Pizza!
Today's blog is pizza! First I had Mcdonalds and then Pizza, you must be thinking what's wrong with this guy, why is he getting these western foods while he's in Hong Kong! Truth be told, I just really love Pizza and my city in China, Chengdu is a bit lacking in that department. We have a good pizzeria here (Shout out to Mikes Pizza) but it's pretty much the only respectable pizza place I have found and it's got a large price tag to go with it (totally worth it though).
Being a pizza lover myself and after being a bit pizza deprived for the past 5 years, I just couldn't control myself when I found these two pizzerias during my strolls around the Ladies Market and Wanchai.
So first let me introduce you to:
Paisano's Pizzeria
I know this isn't technically street food but they run an open face restaurant on the busy Ladies Market street food area. There isn't a ton of seating but there's just enough. You have some people sitting on the bar style tables overlooking the street and some people sitting around inside. You can walk in and order an entire pizza or just a slice to go. They had about 6 different types of pizzas available and wow did they look good. Before even walking in the strong delicious smell of fresh pizzas hit your nostrils that's like a calling for any pizza lover. For anywhere from 30-45 hkd a slice, you get an enormous NY style pizza.
The pizza slice is simple and gorgeous. The crust is everything you want in a pizza, it's sturdy and has a strong robust flavor while still being chewy and soft. It's perfect for the traditional pizza fold. I can't recommend this place enough, if you're missing the NY style pizza or have never tried it then this place is a must. It's not inferior to any places back home and I highly recommend it to anyone visiting hong kong.
That place on Wanchai
Honestly, I can't remember the name of this place and I didn't take a picture of the restaurant but it's right on Wanchai street near all the bars and restaurants. My friends and I were taking the subway to random stops looking for the next promising street food when we found this place. Maybe it was because we came later in the night but the pizza didn't seem too fresh and it was slightly more expensive than before. The pizza was alright and a very similar style to Paisano's Pizzeria but just didn't have the same magic the other place had. If you find yourself in Wanchai though and don't feel like making a trip over to the Ladies Market then it'll do in a pinch but it's kind of overshadowed by a kebab shop and some other amazing street food places.
