Bacon & Avocado Burger
🔥 on the braai 🔥
Hello my fellow Steemians! I hope you guys are all well 😊
It's been a while since I did a Braai tutorial, my apologies, we've had lots of rainy weekends in the last couple weeks. Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining! We desperately needed the rain!
Now summer is finally here, it's time to braai!
What you'll need
- 1 Ripe Avocado
- 200g Streaky Bacon
- 500g Lean Ground Beef (Mince)
- 4 Burger Buns
- 2 Cloves Chopped Garlic
- 1 Sliced Tomato
- 4 Sliced Pickled Cucumbers
- Oil (Sunflower)
- Salt & Pepper
- Lemon Juice (Optional)
Step 1
Light up the braai !! Let the coals get ready while you prepare the next step.
Step 2
Use a pair of scissors to cut the streaky bacon into small chunks.
Step 3
Add some oil to your skillet and place it on the fire. When the oil is hot enough, add the chucks of streaky bacon.
Step 4
Fry the bacon for a minute or so, then add the chopped garlic.
Step 5
Fry the bacon and garlic until it turns nice and brown. Be careful not to over cook the bacon. It shouldn't be to crispy, it should still be soft.
Step 6
Prepare to mix the the bacon with the ground beef. (Mince)
Add bacon to the ground beef.
Add salt and pepper to taste. Then throughly mix everything together.
Step 7
- Cover your work surface with plastic wrap. This will prevent the meat from sticking to the surface while forming the patties.
- Divide the ground beef mixture into four equal portions.
- Roll a portion into a ball and then flatten it into the shape of a burger patty.
Shrinking will occur when cooking the burger patties.
Ensure that the patties are a little larger than the buns and that they are at least 1 cm thick.
Step 8
The coals should be at a medium to low heat. If you can hold your open hand just above the grill for about 10 seconds before it becomes uncomfortable, then the coals are ready.
Place your patties on the grill ...
Cooking time should not exceed 8 minutes. You still want your patties to be nice and juicy.
This is how the patties should look at four minutes cooking time...
At eight minutes cooking...
Remove from grill.
Step 9
Toast the burger buns for a minute on the grill.
Burger Assembly
Step 1
Place bun base on the working surface.
Step 2
Add sliced pickled cucumbers (Gherkins).
Step 3
Add a slice of tomato.
Step 4
Place the burger patty...
Step 5
Add avocado slices.
Add salt and pepper to taste.
I like to squeeze lemon juice over the slices of avocado. It improves the avocado's taste and helps to preserve it's color.
Step 6
Complete the assembly by placing the burger bun's top !
And there you have it... one bacon & avocado burger made on the braai
Thank you reading my tutorial. I hope that you enjoyed it!
I also hope that I've inspired some of you out there to give it a try yourself.
Until next time...
