I decided to spend the last day of my New York vacation in Flushing (Chinatown) with friends. To my surprise the area looked as busy as Chinatown in Manhattan. Chinese restaurants all over the place. New York is not the same as I left it years ago.
I asked my friends to order some exotic Chinese foods, but not the most exotic. I wanted to see if there was something I never tried before that would taste great, to be honest I felt a little adventurous. So I took a gamble.
The selection looked great, Hot Baked Fish, Veggie Noodles, Escargot, Skin on Shrimp, and some other foods I do not recall what the names were. Mind you these are the names loosely translated to English.
Escargot, was the dish I was looking for, I never tasted it before, I always wanted to, but the idea of eating snails never appealed to me. Boy I was so wrong, this was my biggest surprise, the flavour and taste were amazing. It was so good I can not put it in words. I was not the only judge at the table, my little princess kept asking for Escargot, while enjoying her noodles. I am teaching her to try exotic foods early so she would not get used to eating junk.
The restaurant we visited New Shanghai Tan Restaurant, uses fresh seafood cooked to order, it's located at 135-20 40th Rd. Flushing NY. If you are ever in NY, I recommend you try it.

Hot Baked Fish, Veggie Noodles, Escargot, Skin on Shrimp, and some other foods I do not recall what the names were. All these dishes are awesome and i have tried those all, Escargot is the best of these all and stands out because of its great taste and serving hospitality.

Nice post. Flushing is a very eclectic place. My spouse and I lived a few blocks from Main Street, Flushing for 16 years. We suffered a huge loss, our cats and home in a fire. Flushing is similar to China Town, but Chinatown is located in lower Manhattan. Not Queens. Flushing , Queens, has some great places like The Town Hall and Arts Center. The Old Quaker House near Main Street (about 4 blocks) is one of the first Quaker homes. I'm glad you and your family enjoyed it!
I love Chinese food and it's looks good here. I'm scared to try escargot though, I don't know perhaps one day I will brave enough to try it.

I love Chinese food, like steamed dim sum, and I can have noodles morning, noon and night, hot or cold. I like food that's very simple on the digestive system - I tend to keep it light. I love Japanese food too - sushi, sashimi and miso soup.
You must also try the all you can eat buffet it is amazing

I've never been to NYC before, but I have always wanted to visited there. I think it would be so much fun to try the various ethnic foods that are so readily available. Looks like you all are having a great time and I'm glad you got to return. Hope you have a good evening!

The food looks delicious. Snails are not very attractive at first when you think of the thick rubberish skin. But when they preparer well it is delicious. Since you liked these escargots chinese style I think you might also like Escargots in the traditionel french style. With a lot of butter, garlic and herbs you want to lick your plate clean.

That looks like some great food! I visited Chinatown once, and it was amazing. The culture there is so friendly and there's a variety of food like I've never seen. That looks fantastic. I live in Manhattan, but I've never been to Queens, except for the time I spaced out and stayed too long on the train, only to get out at a station with no reentry to the subway. I've also heard Flushing has some great thrift stores. Thank you for the recommendation!
