Good morning!
It's Saturday and I'm at work. Together with my colleagues we decided to sweeten our day with some krapfen.
Today, being curious about the origins of this dessert I did some research to inform better about its origins.
It comes from Germany and is called Berliner Pfannkuchen or simply Berliner. It is a sweet-shaped ball made of sweet dough that is roasted in oil, still warm with a syringe filled with jam and finally sprinkled with powdered sugar.
These origins comes from the Hebrew community in Germany.
In the Middle Ages the so-called sufganiyah was prepared to celebrate the consecration of a new altar in the Temple of Jerusalem.
This dessert is also found in Romania because of the Ottoman domination and it is called donut.
After al these information I got hungry so I am about to taste this delicious mule together with a cappuccino, this is a perfect breakfast here in Italy.
Have a nice weekend!!!
@originalworks
its seem like a small cake,
Hey :) Today I was wondering if other countries have Krapfen too. I Love them so much. During Carnevaltime you can buy them everywhere in Germany with so many toppings and fillings...I love the simple ones most. Filled with rosehips jam. ;) Best greetings from Krapfenland ;)
