The good thing about a lot of time.....Slowcooking on the grill!

in #food5 years ago

It is never a bad thing to look at things from the positive side when life is clearly make some steep turns over here. Lockdown, loss of life all around, loss of jobs all around. When you have some reasons to be positive, we all should take them. One of the things I really can find a lot of joy and comfort in is food. Food = life!

Luckily the local butchers are still working, and I really like the fact of visiting the local shop versus getting the stuff in the supermarket. Support your neighbor you know!

We were blessed with a lot of nice weeks of weather when this whole situation started with loads of outdoor time. A perfect setting I would say to light up the barbeque and really taking some time for it! This lambrack stuffed with garlic and thyme is always a difficult experiment because you want the inside of the lamb nice and bloody red. So high fire and when the inside reaches 55 degrees celsius it is done.

So getting the inside at the perfect core temperature isn't easy. You need tools for that or you need to be the master chef doing this every day which I am not :D So with this small device called HerQs this makes your life easier. you can plug in multiple probes for instance to measure the outside temperature and also measure the inside temperature. It also comes with an app so you can see how the movement of your food is going, and adjust it then. (with the air inflow in your BBQ, not by turning down the gas haha. Charcoal is the way to go baby!) All of a sudden BBQing turned into tech and details!

Well a lambrack only needs some short grilling time, but what about this ham? Having a big piece of ham is always super difficult especially since you need to grill it for a longer period of time. Also with this is app this was easy, you set up your heat, put on the meat....and live your life for the next hour. You can even set an alarm in the app when your schedualed temperature is reached. AndI must admit, I was sceptic. Because isn't this taking away all the fun of slowcooking or grilling in general? But on the other hand if you taste your product afterwards, you know it is worth it!

All in all. Slowcooking and making some nice stuff at home is really some true beauty. I mean look at this setting, it could almost be restaurant quality and it also tasted like it! No reason to stay bored at home, it is trying to make something out of it what does the trick!

Looks delish. We are having lots of picnics and slow stews on the fire on the boat. Bliss.

wait wait. fire and boat? please explain because my simple brain is only seeing disaster in this combo. But so it is doable?
(shit I need a boat man)
