Hacks To Save Money On Food

in #food8 years ago

  • Try coupons.com for Free coupons. I also use P&G Everyday and sometimes will go directly to the website to get the coupons.

  • Dumpster dive in recycle bins for coupons! BE CAREFUL!

  • Snap, Berry Cart, and Shrink are apps that will also save you money on grocery purchases.

  • Forage for food. This will give you super cheap or free salads. You can also buy a cheap book online so you will know what is and is not edible.

  • Consider becoming a vegetarian. Meat can be pricey, and it is a great thing for animals.

  • Shop in a hurry with a list; it will help compulsive shopping!

  • Try to get store reward cards!
As long as they have no annual fee.

  • Avoid prepackaged and processed food. These are expensive, not filling, and they do not even make you feel good.

  • Shop on Wednesday; you can sometimes find better deals.

  • Find a store that allows you to buy in bulk, like cereal, rice, beans, chicken stock, etc. If you have one nearby, Winco is a beautiful store for that.

  • Use a credit card to make all your purchases. Save up the points or the cash back for things you want!

  • Use the Ibotta app and Checkout51 on the products you use a coupon and buy if available on top of those products. Note: check the generic brand first to ensure you are saving money; these apps mostly have brand name products.

  • Use the app, Receipt Pal and Receipt Hog at the same time. I have been using these apps about eight months.

  • If you like Walmart get the Walmart Savings Catcher app; you automatically get the best pricing everywhere. This app is not foolproof, but instead of bugging your cashier on the price match or wasting your gas and time driving around, you can quickly scan the bottom of the receipt. I do this with the receipts I find in the parking lot too.

  • Use a credit card to make all your purchases.- Use the app, Receipt Pal and Receipt Hog at the same time. I have been using these apps about eight months.- Use the Ibotta app and Checkout51 on the products you use a coupon and buy if available on top of those products. Make sure you can use enough before buying one.

  • Buy your food budget monthly. Freeze and refrigerate what you will use right away. This will help avoid impulse purchases and tear and wear on your car.

  • Go to the farmer's markets to save on produce; buy in bulk and can it yourself. Eat it all year long! Can it, Freeze it, find ways to save it!

  • Avoid those mini Isles next to the check stand. Those products are super expensive. Plus they are empty calories.

Thank you

Good information!

Where I live we have a discount supermarket called 'Aldi' nearby. I recommend people look it up to see if there's one near them. It is SO much cheaper than the regular supermarket, food quality is still great (just not name brand stuff) I usually get everything I need for the week for about $25-30.
Example: A regular supermarket may charge $3 for a box of store brand cereal. At Aldi most boxes of cereal are $1.50-$2.

Aldis is great for shopping without coupons. However, shopping with coupons while the item being on sale can't be beaten. The price is often better when using coupons. Not always. Do not use coupons just because you have a coupon. Use it when that item is also on sale to get the best price! :)

I have noticed your post was flagged by R4fken, well known steemit hater.

I am for justice and I am here with all my Steem Power to help you resist his hate downvotes and let your post be visible for steem users. Upvoted!

I noticed you always comment the same words whenever there is a downvote. Please be careful yourself as copying and pasting comments can also be tagged and be thought of as scam. Just thought you might want to know!

Thanks both of you.

Now you are talking my language! We should share notes :)

We should! I would love to read your tips too hehe

Food shopping is honestly one of my favorite things to do haha you are so right though! too many compulsive buys.. but at these prices, how can I refuse??? Great advice!

Exactly! Especially when you need food to live!

Love this post! I am on a mission to save money on food at the moment. Wish I lived in the US so I could be a coupon queen... it's not really a thing in Australia :)
