Finally a recipe :)
It's been a minute since I posted a recipe, I bet all ya'll missed my food posts :D! Anyways, I didn't have groceries to really cook something at home lately and I was preoccupied with the black and white challenge for the last like 7 days, today is actually supposed to be my last day, almost there!
I think sirniki or syrniki, whatever you wanna spell are one of my favorite Russian breakfast dishes, even though blini (crepes) are delicious these guys are phenomenal haha. Let's get to it.
Ingredients:
- 1 egg;
- 2 cups cottage cheese;
- 4-5 tablespoons flour;
- 1 tablespoon honey;
- half a teaspoon baking powder;
- half a teaspoon vanilla extract;
- oil for frying;
- extra flour for coating.
The regular cottage cheese you would be in the US is kinda soggy and watery so I encourage everyone who is going to make this pay a visit to a Russian grocery for a box of proper cottage cheese. It has more dry and sticky texture.
Directions:
Let your cat smell the cottage cheese.
Combine all of the ingredients in a mixing bowl, scoop about a tablespoon of cottage cheese mixture and coat it in additional flour.
Fry on a medium-high heat until both sides are golden brown and cooked thoroughly.
Top sirniki with sour cream, homemade strawberry jam, maple syrup or honey, feel free to garnish with roasted nuts, fresh fruit or whatever you prefer.
I used Icelandic Skyr - a thick type of yogurt and some whole strawberry syrup I have made last summer.
Damn it! I left too soon! Looks purdy good.
Thank you, thank you! I made some cookies today and they didn't work out the way they were supposed to be, gonna make a post about it tomorrow!
Sweet! Always whipping something up. Spasiba for the hospitality during my trip!
These are now inside of my body.
YUM!
those are some really yummy and delicious lookin' pancakes, yom yom yom!
love the glistening maple syrup, just dripping down into a puddle of syrupy goodness!
(burp) :D
Thank you, Alex! Wish I had more haha
😁
NOM NOM NOM, I'll have a few please!! :D
Thank you @reko! Sadly, they're all gone!!! Haha
Sweet recipe from sweet friend @kotturinn looking very nice today ... After a Black and White week & posts, its a beautiful colorful and delicious post.....In cold winter its a good option to have it with hot cup of tea... Hope Sirniki will be a good addition to my favorite foods...
Agreed, I got tired of the black and white here for a minute, I still have one more to go which I was supposed to post today, but decided to skip it haha.
Sirniki are awesome if you cook them right :D thanks!
This looks so delicious and it's suga-free?! I'm glad to see someone who still cares about their health and makes their food themselves. These days, so many people are too lazy to bake their own foods and instead, buy unhealthy products from fast food restaurants. What I love about making the food myself and eating homemade things is that you know what's inside of your meal, and there are no hidden preservatives.
Really enjoyed reading this post, great post :D.
Would be greatly appreciated if you could provide any kind of feedback on my blogs, whenever you get a chance. It will encourage me to keep doing better and help me on my journey. Thanks!
Regards,
@inspirationalrag
Yeah for sure, I like cooking from scratch and using whole ingredients. I don't always do it, but I try haha.
Thanks for the comment!
I assume letting the cat smell it is a critical step.
Looks great! Hmm... I wonder if I can find Russian cottage cheese in Japan. Gotta look.
It is! That's why it is the first one haha.
You would probably have to check out a Russian grocery. I wonder what kind of cottage cheese they have in Japan. This one is sort of dry so it's perfect for frying!
You know, I don't know. I've never bought cottage cheese here or in the States, so I don't know what it is like in either country. I'll go buy some from the store and report back!
Sounds good, make sure the cottage cheese you buy is sorta dry, because the regular soggy kind will not work! :)
Amazing, slurp..
Miam miam.

I didn't have breakfast yet and that looks so delicious my stomach is grumbling haha
Haha thank you :D Get food!!!
That looks good! My husband wouldn't like this because he doesn't like cottage cheese lol!
I swear to god this cottage cheese is different from the kind they sell in the US.
Is it sweeter in Russia?
No, it doesn't have any sugar added to it, it is ... dry I'd say, not all soggy and watery
Ahh ok! Sounds interesting! I gotta try it!
That is interesting with the cottage cheese. They look delicious. BTW, love your cat! We have two.
Thank you! I love cats, we have three of them, this one on the picture arrived here from Russia by a few planes!
Interesting, they look just like regular pancakes but I bet they’re much healthier
They are almost all cottage cheese and it makes them so special haha, I like them!
I have never really tried cottage cheese before... might have to give it a go someday
Are you serious? That is crazy to hear haha, I am not a fan of American cottage cheese though haha
Ooo I did not know they were different! It’s not very popular over here
Where?
US... at least where I’m from
My o my, I am salivating already. This looks tasty. Good job @kotturrin
Thanks a lot! Wish I could share!
Do we have in Russia is popular this dish is. Sour cream, jam or honey are perfect to him. But maple syrup I have never tried. What does that stuff taste like?
Very true :) thanks!
It is kind of hard to explain what it tastes like, it's sort of like thin honey. I found an article that talks about different kinds of maple syrup, how it's made and what its taste may be like, here:
