Who else loves to eat roses?
I just recently discovered that rose petals and rosebuds are very much edible! Who would have thought, right? I've always been a fan of flower tea, especially the kind that is just one huge bud that starts to "bloom" in your cup as soon as you fill it with water. I forget what the name of it was, but that kinda tea is amazing to watch, maybe I will make a video of it in one of my next posts, what do you, guys think? Let me know in the comment section!
Wow! Looks like I haven't missed a day here on Steemit in quite a while now, I feel pretty content about that. And excited to share one more recipe with you. As many of you know, I tend to take part in Steemit Culinary Challenge a lot, so one of those times when I was browsing the web for inspiration, I stumbled upon a very interesting blog called Unconventional Baker, there's plenty of healthy desserts you might wanna check out if you don't like baking, the only downfall is that you gotta freeze them and that usually takes 4-6 hours :/ either way haha I just heard myself sound JUST like Shoenice, either way, the recipe I used today for making these pistachio delights I got from there, except as always I modified it, took something out, added some magic, you know how that goes :D.
Pistachio Bars With Rose Petals
Ingredients for the crust:
- 4 dried figs;
- 2 tablespoons tricolor quinoa;
- 5-6 tablespoons flax seeds;
- 1 tablespoon coconut oil;
- 1 tablespoon maple syrup.
Directions:
Place all of the ingredients in a blender and process. Unfortunately, my blender didn't really grind the quinoa and flax seeds, they are too tiny and there wasn't exactly a lot of stuff in the blender, however it did the figs just fine, so I wasn't too worried about it. Now form a crust in a spring pan or whatever cookware you have, note that it should be something small. Move it to the fridge or freezer to chill.
Let's make the filling, shall we?
Ingredients for the filling:
- 200 g mixed pistachios and pumpkin seeds;
- 3 tablespoons maple syrup;
- 1 tablespoon coconut oil;
- 40 ml cream (half & half) or almond milk for a vegan choice;
- 1 teaspoon rose petals for decoration;
- extra pistachios for decoration.
Directions:
This one is going the exact same way as the previous, super easy, just blend until it's smooth, add more or less liquid (cream/almond milk), evenly spread it on your crust and put away in the freezer for about 6 hours or better let it sit there overnight.
Just like a lot of other raw desserts this one needs to be stored in the freezer to prevent it from getting mushy and melting. I don't have a problem with that to be honest, but I know some people do, in that case I guess they would have to figure out a way to bake it, maybe just by adding some flower into the mix? Something to think about.
Now let's see them pictures! Oh yeah, sprinkle some rose petals and the reserved pistachios on top of the bar!
I think that it would also be good to try using dates instead of figs to make the crust. I haven't had them in a while and they are so good!
Hopefully, you guys enjoyed this simple recipe of the day that makes a delicious desert and also is good for your brain and body! As always, comments, tips and criticism are very welcome.
See ya soon!
One more, before I hit the post button :)
I love this recipe. I will try to make it.
Thank you! Luckily it's pretty straight forward and easy! And so delicious!!!
I haven't tasted roses before but i would love to have gig at a piece of it. I would go to the market and find out if i can lay hands on the ingredients and follow the directions give try my hands on with my mom. I love the photography and the setting was on point too. Lovely
Thank you very much for the feedback! I hope you make it even better than me, feel free to play with the recipe according to your preferences in food, that's what I usually try to do when I cook! It's a nice healthy bar :)
Your photography skills are immaculate. Those bars look really good.
I stopped eating pistachios after cracking a couple open and finding little worms had made a nest in a bunch of the nuts. I probably ate a few of them; usually I just crack them and pop them in my mouth.
It really tripped me out!
Thank you Jesse :)
I didn't know you were such a baby! I've ate so many worms (in fruits) that I lost count, it is kinda nasty to think about it though haha. Maybe give them another try? The ones we got didn't have any worms in them.
Hahaha BURN!!!!
It wasn't only the worms, it was webs and probably their poop too. I ate them and their house. I would definitely eat those bars you made.
Ate them with the house! Damn! Ruthless, Jesse!
Take Emily and come see us!
We were actually up that way just recently as you might have seen from my Cedar Point post. lol But we spent a ton of money and that's all we were able to do. We need to make a trip up there next!
I'm gonna check it out now! I bet the rides weren't cheap! I've never been to Cedar Point, how was it?
These are too pretty to eat!
Aw! Thank you very much!
I wonder if there is a preferred variety of rose that is best used in culinary preparations, I have three rose bushes, only one is fragrant, the others are more ornamental and remind me more of wild roses or something. . . Also, a post about "candied" violets would be awesome, i have always wanted to try them, as I have a lot growing in my yard.
Thank you Thomas! I've never heard about candied violets, I should probably research them. As far as using flowers in cooking goes, I've only tried roses and lavender, I got both off of Amazon, the descriptions just said they were edible, but I am not sure if they differ from regular ones. I know there are so called tea-roses, they smell delicious and make a tasty tea and jam, I have not seen them here, but it could be one that you have, the fragrant one!
I hear a lot about people making "simple syrups," from things like honeysuckle flowers. I have yet to taste it or try my hand at it. Maybe I can send you some exotic ingredients from the mountains. not sure how I could go about sending them through the mail, maybe dry ice or something?
Wow wow,can you post a piece my dear? I can plant more rose in my garden maybe^_^
In my country people give roses cooked in sugar . TO there bafaloo to increase milk ...
So..use fresh rose or sundried? I always drink flower tea and sometimes use fresh rose for kid bubble bath...haha
Fresh one
I wish I could just hand it to you through the computer screen!
Hmm..I am so ready to receive it ..just brew a pot of green tea to go with it...did you get that transporter machinery ready?hahaha...technology geek needed!
Hahaha I'm working on inventing one! Hopefully soon enough we will be able to teleport! Tea is so good! What kind is your favorite?
Wow,look forward! I love new season green tea and flower tea... also Pu-we tea which older than 10 years.... all good for diet! Hah
I have some green tea with jasmine and plain green, both are pretty good, it has been a minute since I had any though. I'm gonna need to look into the Pu-we tea haha
Sorry,pu er tea..
This is awesome :)
Thank you very much!
Whoa, beautiful dish and great photos! I may just try making them. Thank you!
Thank you! They turned out pretty good, I hope you like them! :)
Love the Recipe....but holy lawd
That just looks awesome, great pictures
And great food:)
Thank you very much! You should try making it! :)
I will try haha....I mean I do have a giant rose bush in my front yard:)
HAHAHA! Sounds like you're up to a good start, sure do wish I had a rose bush!
That looks awesome! I really like your pictures. I'll probably try this recipe. (Eric likes pistachios)
I know there are a few different flowers that are edible. I haven't tried them myself though. There is a tea that I get from Teavana and it has little rose buds in it.
Thank you!
Yeah, you can use flowers from any tea you got, I ordered a bag of roses from Amazon, gonna just eat them all eventually!
Nice.
I never thought to experiment with flowers in recipes. I just skimmed that website you shared though, and I will probably try to make a lot of what is on there. lol
Isn't it super pretty? And all of it is vegan and healthy! Or at least most of it.
I'll feel better about eating it then!
Exactly!
I was gunna say about teavana too but you beat me to it
Ha! I just don't remember the name of the tea. And I'm feeling too lazy to go and check right now. lol
Roses. Yes they have many benefits besides eating and deciration.
I love the way you added pistachio nuts. They will not only add nutrition to it but the functional component will add health benefits as well.
For sure, that's why I used them. If you go through the ingredients list, you will notice that it's a pretty healthy no sugar dessert.
Figs as well
Super active components. Immune booster
Nice, thanks!
I always buy a jam from poses petals.
It reminds me a time when I was a kid
Now that you mentioned it, I think I had something similar as a kid. Where do you get it from?
Я росла в Крыму и там были розовые плантации. Мы школьниками ездили туда на уборку -сборку розовых лепестков. Те же совхозы делали розовое масло и варенье
I usually buy a jam in Russian/European stores in US. It's so funny, they always stay on shelves beside to Adjika, Sutsibeli and Oblephica jam

You have to try ice cream with rose pentals! Super delicious :)
Never heard about it, I'm intrigued!
Here the pentals are sugared and rose sirup is used for the ice cream. mmmm
Wow, this looks super tasty, do they sell it in the US?
I don't know but it must be... i get mine here http://www.souschef.co.uk/crystallised-rose-petals-medium.html.. i think they ship to the US.
Oh thanks! I'll probably be able to get those off of Amazon!
You could do that but they are priced like gold overthere :( ... i pay $5/40grams ...on Amazon they are $10.50/14grams. Maybe they use more expensive roses ?!@#
I love the recipe with flowers in it. Your photos are superb and your dish looks delicious. I will follow you because you are full of good ideas and you are perfectionist. I like this
Thank you for being so super nice, makes me feel good about what I do! :)
The rose petals remind me of the blooming teas too. Those are so wild!
I know! I have a few of them that I brought back for @matt-a from Crimea. I'm considering making a video brewing one haha
You should. @elecbubble bought some but we haven't made them yet but they are wild
I will try during the weekend! And you guys can post about the kind you got!
Hmmm... Look Yummy. I want some.
Sure do wish I could hand you some!
Yeaa I like this post :) it reminds me of my special magmum icecream I had in Amsterdam (Official Magmum Store) where they also used the rose leafs etc. and the taste was great. Like = worthy upvote & follow of course ;)
You're too nice! Thank you very kindly!
I've never had a rose petals ice cream, but I'd love to try. A few years back me and my husband @matt-a went to Amsterdam and I ate a lot of herring! :)
Now I'm thinking whether or not I've ever eaten roses. By the way that looks very nice.
You probably had some in teas? Thank you very much :)
What a pretty looking food. And it's healthy! Makes it even better
Thank you @viazenar! I recommend trying this recipe!
This looks so good! And thanks for the tip on the website, will be checking that one out! Already added to my news feed ;)

thankyou so much <3 u r awesome
You're welcome!
Yumiii!!!
Thank you:)
:-)
i just love it and resteemit @kotturinn
Those bars look incredible! I like to use rose water when I bake, but my girlfriend hates it and says it reminds her of her grandmothers powder room, so if I end up making this recipe I will have to eat these in secret, which now that I'm typing it out, doesn't sound so bad...
Hahaha! I can relate to your gf when it comes lavender it reminds me of my grandma's wardrobe haha, but I think I'm starting to accept it slowly!
You can skip the roses by the way or substitute for jasmine!
thank you for sharing
Anytime! Thanks for the feedback!
What a delicious new bar! Resteemed.
Floral flavors (rose, violet, etc) are really big in France. You find them in candies and ice cream.
Oh wow! When me and husband went to Paris I didn't get to try any of those delights, shame on me!
These look orgasmic!!!
Oh wow! Nice! Thank you! :)
Great recipe! Pistachio and rose is one of my top favorite combination. I'll try it soon!
Thank you and please do! You will be rewarded with awesome flavors!
Rose pedals never looked so delicious!! And of course we all want to see a video of tea if its amazing to watch! Thanks for always sharing, and being so detailed with your posts!!
Thank you! I shall do it sometime over the weekend probably! I try to be detailed, it doesn't always work out, the lazy part of me is always trying to find an easy way around, gotta work on that too. Thank you for the feedback and making me feel good about what I do! :)
Wow, roses and pistachios... almost looks too pretty to eat!
Thank you, thank you! better eat it as it's so good! Haha
Too cool. You successfully managed to make those bars look like fairy food or something. Everything you described sounds delightful.
Thank you very much! Please, try making them too, you will be rewarded with awesome flavors!
Great pics as always!
I don't know if you ever checked out @haphazard-hstead but they are always eating rose petals and other wild stuff!
Thanks!
Yeah, I saw their post in Steemit culinary challenge thread, it looked pretty good! :)
Looks absolutely delicious. Is it your own creation/idea or did you adapt it from somewhere ? I've heard of nasturtiums being edible as well.
Thanks! Actually I mentioned it in my post where the recipe comes from, check it out!
Sorry missed that part. Must have been focused too much on those delicious images :p
No worries! Anyways, check that lady out, her pictures and recipes are out of this world, she's a genius when it comes to creating good looking food!
awesome Omega-6 rich snack !! thanks for sharing :)
Anytime! You gotta make some too!
im keeping notes for September, right now i am on a calorie deficit , and my fats are 9 almond 3 times a day ! haha need to get shredded
That actually sounds pretty good, I need to cut my food intake down some too!
If you know your maintenance calories intake, start cutting 150-300 calories every 2 weeks , increase your activity levels , go high protein/fats low carbs or high protein/carbs low fats (prefer the first option )
My problem is that I only want to eat at night hahaha
Try to eat low glycemic index foods , meats & veggies ! if you feel carvings eat tons of broccoli ! Chromium will regulate them ^^ it would be bio-hard the first week , but after that your body will get used to it and the you will just have to fight your mind hunger ! heh
This is geniusss! I love the smell of rose oil and rose water (making rosewater lemonade is my jam!), so adding in this next level of rose-eating is going to be amazing. GREAT great post @kotturinn <3 Thank you for sharing!
You're welcome! And thank YOU for bringing rose water up, I think I'm gonna get some of that :D
