Want to eat something really really delicious, filling and without meat?😁

Here is it the Chili Sin Carne recipe! And yes it is vegan 😉

First of all, it is really easy to make but it takes some time. It took me roughly an hour. Luckily, I had some help.

What do we need for 3-4 persons:

  • 4-5 big potatoes
  • 1 big onion
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1-2 cans chopped tomatoes (~ 400 g each)
  • 1 tablespoon mustard (as spicy as you like)
  • 2 big tablespoons vegetable stock
  • 1 can of (kidney) beans
  • 250 g red lentils
  • 1 can maize
  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • salt
  • pepper
  • chili powder
  • curry powder
  • paprika powder

Starting with the potatoes choose the four/five biggest and let them cook in water for around 20 minutes. I like to cook them with their skin.

Meanwhile you can chop the onions and the garlic in small pieces. Afterwards fry them in olive oil (or every oil you prefer) for a short time. Wash the lentils with water and add them to the onions and garlic. Mix everything with the two tablespoons of tomato paste, chopped tomatoes and vegetable stock. Depending on how fluid you would like to have your chili sin carne you will need 0.8-1.5l of water. I used around 1l and it was at the beginning quite fluid but the water condensed and the whole chili sin carne became more creamy.

From now on you will have to wait...
Let everything simmer with a low heat for around 15 minutes. While that your potatoes are maybe ready. Pull them out of the water and cool them down with cold water so you can peel them easier. You can cut the potatoes in half or in quarters.

The vegetable stock I used was self made. If some of you wish to know how I did it leave me a comment. I will consider it and do a post about vegetable stock, how to make it and why it is better then the bought one.

After the 15 minutes are over there is not much left to do. Drain the maize and the beans and add them to your chili sin carne. Also don't forget your mustard!

Mix everything together and let it simmer for another 10 minutes. Now you can add some salt, but be careful the vegetable stock is already really salt, pepper, curry, paprika and chili powder. Take your cut potatoes and put them on top of your chili sin carne. And you are finished :D

I like to top it with some parsley but oregano is perfectly fine too!

Some tips and suggestions:

  1. If you like the sweet tomatoe taste use two cans of chopped tomatoes otherwise I would recommend one.
  2. If you do not like lentils you can use soya mince as an alternative. But make sure to cook the soya mince right! Of course you can combine lentils and soya mince, too. This is also a great combination!
  3. You can add some different vegetables if you want. Something like carrots, for example, will fit perfectly!
  4. I also ate some Jerusalem artichoke or also called topinambur instead of bread. Try it out 😉

The only thing left is to wish you a Bon Appétit!!! And...
