Watermelon Cooler Agua Fresca! [FOOD PORN + RECIPE]

in #food8 years ago

Hey Steemians!

If you haven't noticed, it's getting HOT out - well, if you're in the southern part of the states. Instead of sitting around whining about it, I made this drink that hopefully others in warmer climates will appreciate!

This drink was inspired by a trip that @richardcrill and I took to Tulum, Mexico in May. We went to this awesome vegan restaurant (there's a ton there) where I ordered a watermelon agua fresca - I was dripping in sweat for 99% of the trip, but I remember feeling so cool & refreshed after gulping this drink down.

Today was one of those hot, I'm not moving but I'm still sweating days & I couldn't wait to whip this up!

Watermelon Cooler Agua Fresca

Ingredients

  • 2 cups of seedless watermelon, cubed
  • 1 cup of coconut water
  • 1 tsp ginger, minced
  • 1/2 tsp jalapeno, minced
  • 1 lime, juiced
  • 1 T. aloe juice/pulp (I just used a small leaf from our aloe plant)
  • small handful of mint leaves, chopped

Directions

Throw all of the ingredients above in a blender - blend on med/high for about 30 seconds. If you like yours extra frothy, turn up the speed.( I put some coconut sugar on the rim of the glasses, but totally optional).

Add some ice cubes (optional), pour in a glass & chillax knowing that you're not only helping your body cool off, but all of these ingredients combined make for one kickass, hydrating, alkalizing juice your body will thank you for :)

Stay cool, Steemians!

Looks delicious! I would have thought that the jalapeno would have the reverse effect, making you feel warmer.

Yeah it has a little zing to it from the ginger & jalapeño but there's such a small amount compared to the cooling effect of the watermelon & mint that it's merely for taste. I'm guilty of adding ginger to everything.

I gotta try this recipe, especially in this NYC heat.

I LOVE watermelon and this sounds AMAZING. I'll definitely have to give this a try! Btw, if you take recipe requests, I would love to try a cranberry slushy type drink around the holidays. :D
