I frequently find myself lost riding my scooter around San Juan. GPS is a true struggle in the area. Sometimes, getting lost is fun and I discover new places. As I struggled to find the office to register to vote this afternoon, I discovered a Thai and Indian restaurant on the corner. Named “Bangkok & Bombay,” I instantly had a rush of excitement flood my brain and I had memories of my time in Thailand. I didn't bring back a single souvenir from Thailand, but I did bring back a deep love for Thai food. Oh how food is the route to my heart!
The area of Bangkok and Bombay was not necessarily the most pleasant. A bit of a rougher area of town. I checked google to discover a 4.2 star review, and also came across the corrupt “Yelp” review of 3 stars. I recently discovered Yelp penalizes restaurants for not paying thousands a month to advertise by writing fake negative reviews. Since then, I have been more likely to try places with 2 or 3 star reviews.
As I kicked up my scooter on the sidewalk, it truly felt for a split second I was back in Thailand! I was greeted by a friendly employee and handed a menu to place my to go order. I was a bit taken back by the prices. You will not be exiting the restaurant without forking out $20-$30 for just one meal. I REALLY MISS THOSE FOOD PRICES IN ASIA! Steep, but like I mentioned my love for Thai food runs deep. I ordered Pad Gra Prow with chicken. My food was ready in just about 6 minutes!
Eager to get back to my apartment, and even running a couple red lights (It seems acceptable in Puerto Rico), the food made it back safely and still warm! The portion was generous, especially the amount of chicken, and it filled the Thai void my body has been feeling for months. I found the little piece of Thailand that I needed!
Last I was in PR, I went to this place Mai Pen Rai, twas great! I'll have to check this place out next time though.
