Taverna Michalis - Crete, Greece (September 2023)

in #food11 months ago

Hello everyone! In today's post I am taking you to my favorite place to eat in Chania, Crete and it's called Taverna Michalis.

We visited Taverna Michalis on two occasions in the evenings, just in time for dinner. Greeted by the kind staff, we managed to find a nice spot for all eight of us and had our first round of drinks while waiting for food. I went for squid stuffed with feta cheese (12-13 euros) and it was really good! My drink of choice was white wine (7-7,5 euros per glass) and together with food it was a perfect combination. On the right photo you can see our table from my friend's perspective. Everyone was really happy with the food, service was great and at the end we got some Cretan raki (alcohol drink) and cake with ice cream - so yummy!

These photos were taken from our second time at Taverna Michalis and I really wanted to try fried octopus for the first time in my life. Actually I had a bite from one of my friends earlier on this trip just to see if I would like it and I did so I had to order it myself... Even though the portion doesn't look that big at all, it was just perfect to fill my hungry stomach but also left room for some other food my friends ordered but didn't finish. Once again we were offered raki and cake but this time I just had cake which was so delicious! Unfortunately, I took a photo after we already had some so it doesn't look that aesthetic - sometimes I just forget about taking a photo when I see food in front of me. :)

Even though there is a lot of restaurants and bars in this Old Harbour area and all of them look nice, Taverna Michalis caught our attention because of the cozy and chill vibe but still with that Greek vibrant atmosphere. Menu was also diverse so everyone could find something for themselves and staff was very kind and their English was great so they could give us recommendations, advice and answer any question we had. The view was amazing and also music at this Taverna was excellent. Overall a great experience and if I'm even in Chania again, I would definitely come back to this place!
