Finally! Our first Kiwano is ready to eat.
The Kiwano, AKA African Horned Melon or Jelly Melon, is an interesting plant that we've been growing for three seasons now. Besides looking like a vine full of puffer fish, this fruit is quite a peculiar one indeed.
One of the most frequent questions I get about this remarkable food is "How do you eat them?" It is with that question in mind that I bring you this video today. In it, I'll show you two different methods of enjoying a Kiwano.
The first method I'll show you is the @papa-pepper "on the go" method, and the second is the more "refined" method showed in the photo above. Enjoy!

Sweet!....:)...
My first thought at looking at the picture was "That looks like a passion fruit inside!"
Then you said it in the vid. :)
On the leaves said that the cucumber or melon, and the fruit is similar, but of course it is different.
Kiwano is so delicious food, this food is rare in our country, when i see it any places i buy it and eat it

hahaha awesome! I just saw some of those in my supermarket and wondered how they tasted. haha :)
Just as I suspected from looking at the seed pattern, the kiwano is a member of the cucumber family.
Your kids are lucky to have an adventurous, inquisitive father willing to try new foods!
If you get a bumper crop and you want to save some for later in the winter, how do you preserve these? Do you freeze or can the pulp? Make frozen juice for later? Just really curious...
i am first time see this type of food...
Great video @papa-pepper ! will they grow in Canada or do they need a long growing season!? I think it would be so cool to plant some stuff that we have never even seen before lol! Next spring in my new Garden, which I will be moving to in the country next month! Stay tuned for some upcoming photos! 💕✌👍😀
