Snuck over to Poutine Fest while at work today!

First for all my non-Canadian readers, I'll have to inform you what a poutine in. From my understanding this is a purely Canadian delicacy!

It is French Fries, with cheese and gravy. The hot gravy melt's the cheese on the fries and the whole thing turns into a goopy mess.

We'll in small town Northern Ontario we have a whole festival dedicated towards it! It's honestly not much of a festival. There really wasn't much going on. Just a few food trucks serving poutine and some music at night in the amphitheater.

The great thing about the location of our hospital is that it's on prime real estate just across the street from a large lake and huge park where they host all the events most weekends in the summer. It's about 15 minute walk to the main entertaining area so you can usually sneak up there on your lunches to check these things out. Which is exactly what I did today.

Here's a couple shots I took of the venue today, like I said really not much to show.

I know what you really want to see though is my meal. Of course I had to try the more gourmet versions of the traditional poutine.

This one was topped with pulled pork and BBQ sauce instead of gravy, but it still had all the glorious cheese.

I also tried this buffalo chicken version, which was topped with chicken and some sort of sauce, in lieu of gravy but did once again contain the cheese.

Both we're excellent, I think I liked the pulled pork one the best, and in case your curious I didn't eat them all myself and brought some back to work for my coworkers to eat.

So do you have Poutine wherever you are? Or is this a brand new idea, and what are your regional treats that I probably haven't heard about in Canada?

No we dont have poutine!! It looks delish. I want! But I reckon Id go the traditional version.

Which cheese are they using? Im thinking of giving this a go at home.

Your gonna bring poutine down under eh?
Usually they would use the cheese curds but it’s just fine with mozzarella as well.

Yes same question what cheese so I can make here.

I would assume most use a mozzarella cheese. At least all the ones I have had are. I like to make mine at home, because I can add different kinds of cheese. I usually add mozzerarella and white old cheddar cheese.

This is torture, no such thing by that name here. Doesn’t stop me from wanting to face plant it though, and inevitably feel sick afterwards from lack of chewing. I shan’t make my own and do just that :P

I am a Brazilian and everytime I go to Vancouver to visit my daughter, the first food I want to eat is a poutine. I like it!

Mmmm mmmm! I love POUTINE! Pulled pork poutine is my favourite. I've been missing it a lot since leaving Canada. I actually made some at home the other day minus the cheese curds. Just wasn't the same. Enjoy!

This is my granddaughter's and my favorite dish. Wish I had a picture to share but another rendition is to add chili on top. So always fries on the bottom, I use 2 kinds of cheese, mozzarella and white old cheddar and then chili on top. Oh, so yummy. The reason I prefer homemade is that I can make my own gravy. So when I cook up beef or chicken I can use that to make an amazing gravy. For me, it is the gravy that makes this dish so good. Also, let's not forget the gooey goodness of the cheese. :-) Thanks for sharing @phelimint oh, I also resteemed.
