Hey all steemians,
Today I made Bánh cuốn at home, this is a well known Vietnamese dish, really refreshing to eat it. Normally in Vietnam Bánh cuốn is making a quite different, but sadly I am living in the Netherlands, missing a lot of ingredients to make it, but it's still delicious!
What is Bánh cuốn?
Bánh cuốn is made from a thin, wide sheet of steamed fermented rice batter filled with a mixture of cooked seasoned ground pork, minced wood ear mushroom, and minced shallots. Next to the dishes are some meats, for example chả lụa (Vietnamese pork sausage), but I had some extra meat, like cha chien (Vietnamese pork sausage) and nem chua (Vietnamese fermented pork). There is also sliced cumcumber, bean sprouts, dried unions and rau que (Basil) but I had no rau que that day. To finish that dish we eat it with nuoc mam (fish sauce) or if you don't like that much you can also use maggi (liquid seasoning).
The rice sheet in bánh cuốn is extremely thin and delicate. To cook the bánh cuốn you steam it with a cloth that is strechted over a pot of boiling water. Mostly you eat bánh cuốn in the morning as breakfast in Vietnam, because it's a light dish. I also made bánh cuốn with shrimps inside.
