Why do I Dumpster Dive?

  • Bring awareness on how much food is wasted with our current system!
  • Save the abundance of food that is wasted and share it with my network!
  • Minimizing costs enabling me to Power Up 100%!
  • Great regular exercise and good karma... ;)

Thursdays Weekly Meet-ups:

We meet up on Thursdays in the middle of the city to share the food we've saved during the week. It's a great way to meet, connect and support each other. We meet between 6-7 pm at the same time as the decentralized farmers market that I've initiated!

dividerblue.png

I regularly invite friends over to share the abundance of food, been doing it for many years but now I also of course make sure to introduce them to the Steem blockchain! ;)

Sweden, Gothenburg...

Herregud ! jag förväntade mig någonstans i norr :)

I am from Dalarna 🐴 .. nice work .. following you 👍🏼

This is the first post I opened up on steemit. I am liking this community already :) Great work on making a difference. It would be cool if you can walk into the stores and tell them to simply give you the food so you do not need to dive into the dumpsters. But they will most likely try to charge you for trying to help, lol. Good stuff reko.

preparing for 2019 grand party boy keep it up

hohaaa, oh yeah!:D

I wish stores would throw less food, and instead focus more on advertising discounts for food, that they would normally throw out. A lot, as you have proven is fully edible.

amazing dear @reko

Wow! I had no idea...

wow that is really quite shocking how much food is wasted, and it's all down to the system. terrible to think about really - glad someone is making some difference.

I was actually wondering if all this array of food is actually from the trash until I read this:

Here you will find plenty of trash-related articles: you can search by specific countries and cities to find the best places in your area!

As I continued to read and watch the photographs I started asking myself why someone should make this kind of thing a career or hobby, especially when he has to go out at night, inside the terribly cold weather, etc. Then I saw this:

Bring awareness on how much food is wasted with our current system!
Save the abundance of food that is wasted and share it with my network!
Minimizing costs enabling me to Power Up 100%! Great regular exercise and good karma... ;)

At this point I gave up because I came to realise that the motivating factor was love, deep sincere love for the downtrodden and the under-privileged of the society.

My heart just melted!

@reko I salute your altruism and thank you for being that part of humanity that still know and understand the true meaning of the word 'love'.

bloody genius! i wrote a post recently about the insanity of paying for food. We're all daft for paying for it when so much is being thrown away.

I loved my experiences helping a group of friends dumpster dive. They would go every day to get some freshly packed food from the supermarket. It was always super fresh and clean and separate from the dirty trash. We’d bring it back to our neighborhood and set up tables on the street and have a party with the neighbors and invite some of the local homeless people to come eat together with us. It was really beautiful. Then a bunch of people got arrested and they started to watch the dumpsters more carefully...so absurd!

Wow I can’t believe how much food you’re able to haul back on that bike!

i agree with you @tysonjames

That food looks fresher then the food I buy in the store! You now that old saying one mans trash is another mans treasure, You are eating like a king and I hope you king and showing others how to also! Good job on the post!

Well, all I can say is awesomeness and respect. Looking at your pictures astonishes me how much food is wasted. I am wondering why... and why such amounts. Some kind of 'myth' is that you do not have to always follow the expiry date, but it gets trashed anyway once that has been surpasses.

Cheers from Belgium and thumbs up for you!

This is incredibly eye opening, I am in Canada, and we have a system where I am located that the excess foods that are not consumed from the grocery stores goes to our local food banks. Thanks for the insight, a job well done. Now following you, love this post

I absolutely can not believe you found all of that fresh food in the dumpsters! It really is crazy the amount of food that people waste. Thank you for using your time to bring light to this problem, hopefully just seeing posts like this can make people rethink what they throw out. Also, your pup Lizzy is super cute! What a good partner :)

Awesome bro! you even find beers in there. We make a killing at the road side trash on pick up days, I have found countless items. We always cut the cords and save them to recycle, they sure do add up quick, and can fetch $1 a pound here in the states. Great post bro! I would like to add, its truly amazing how wasteful everyone is.

yes you can find just about anytthing and I have to agree unf people are not very sustainable atm but we'll get there...

Hayyy dude I am rinku.... A pharmacist.... Wowww.... Its awesome that you helping poor people. I also used to to in the orphanage and help those children. Good work ever. I would like to meet such a great personality. Hope it will come true. All the very best to you dear.

Food is lookin delicious @reko don't tell me your going to finish this by yourself if you want to share i'm here don't worry i'll help you to finish this stuff :p

hehe yeah np you're def welcome to join the feast!:D

Am hearing this for the first time, very creative and interesting true people waste a lot of food that is gold to others. Making awareness should make people think. Nice post please keep it going. I have followed and upvoted you.

that´s awesome! looks like a hard work. But i think that you enjoy?

yes indeed, hard work but feels great doing and a lot of fun:D

Reko...you are all about healthy foods..i can understand why you have a healthy look and an awesome smile..avocado fruit is really expensive in Nigeria..i know you can ship some to me..hahahahaha

lol don't think they will be any good when they arrive unf;)

Nice post.I respect you very much because you contribute to steemit.I will do activities like you.I would like to extend the steemit.@

That’s incredible. Is this all expired? If not, why would they be throwing it away?

They are driven by money only aka insane!;)

wow .. you are a creative person my friend .. you teach us how to live right, can use the garbage to be something very valuable .. I like you. thank you very much my brother

I'd like to see more activism in promoting fresh food. There is so much plastic waste and processed food in there. At least fresh food can be composted, fed to animals and decomposes quickly. Sorry to sound pessimistic, you are doing a brilliant job with this, however the war on plastic needs some steem and I am saddened by how much of it is on show here.

yeah I'm not only saving the food that is wasted I also forage what is growing freelyin nature which minimizes my use of plastic as well as always bringing my own bag when shopping...

I have no doubt you are doing far more than myself and pretty much any others on here. You are part of the solution, not the problem. But amoungst the waste you have gathered, highlights far more than just a throw away food problem. Keep up the good work!

I love Avocadossss Champ!

I knew those supermarkets wasted a lot of food, but holy fuck that's just crazy ! Thanks for sharing that type of experience, that's my main mentality too, I always try my best not to waste anything. Keep it up, this activity is the best you can do on this planet. Humans should not waste anything, we should just give back what the Earth gives us at a time instead of wasting it. That's the natural cycle. May the Steem be with you as you say :D
I'm gonna check those sites to see if there's some interesting spot near my town.

This really is amazing. I don't think most people have any idea how much food is thrown away. Our local community mission place gets a lot of the stuff all the grocery stores start to throw out and give the to the poor and homeless. Most of the stuff was only 1-2 days after the sell by date (or on that date, but everything was good).

No one should go hungry in America.

Lol, that's amazing. I'm not used to seeing a post like this, that's for sure. I'm kind of surprised how nice those avocados look...actually, almost everything that you showed in the pictures looked great. I can't believe that bananas that look like that are being thrown away. Good show sir.

no they are not even ripe, lol

it is really sad how much food is wasted everyday when almost half of the worlds population is starving and can barely have a decent meal, they even only eat once a day. thank you for giving awareness and showing what others can't see because most of the time subjects like this are being ignored and people just take food and things for granted.

This is absolutely amazing - one because what you're doing is incredible and two because seeing that amount of food wasted is sickening. I know that some places have a practice of pouring washing up liquid or bleach on top of food they throw out, or even locking the bins so people can't forage for free food. It's always nice to see people working for the side of society and general enlightenment!

Looking forward to seeing more

This is a great initiative! It truly does put that good food to good use instead of leaving it to waste.. That food is reaching mouths it never would have seen otherwise! :)

This is great! I've dumpster dived on and off for a few years, it's amazing what you can find. After valentines day we once found a bin bag full of roses. A few summers ago we found one full of winter hats, scarfs and gloves (must have been passed the sell by date?). I can't say I've ever had such bountiful hauls as you though. Looks delicious. What are the authorities attitude towards this where you are? Here in the UK they've been clamping down on it, but a local friend of mine has set up a cafe where they serve free food and drinks (donations welcome) and managed to get supermarkets in the area to donate food they would otherwise throw out. It's INSANE what these huge institutions consider trash. Thanks a lot for the post mate!

Here it's mostly the individual stores fighting it with bigger locks and new system to keep the "trash" away from the people...

It's crazy how much food is thrown away there while other parts of the globe are starving. If I lived there, I'd probably dumpster dive too. We don't have that here in the Philippines.

Great post and Lizzy is super cute dog;)

Wow! It is amazing how much great food you found....why would people throw such good food? I think we are so far away from producing our own stuff that we don't even value it anymore...sometimes. Great work! Keep it up!

Wow...it’s shocking to see just how much food goes to waste. It’s great that you’re able to reclaim it and that it’s actually being eaten by someone instead of being left to spoil!

¡ Excelent ! ¡ Good Post ! you have a new follower, I wish you luck @reko

I wish to see some of these food in our upcoming party..but we really gon make it sweet too..this is amazing food you shared @reko.thanks

Wonderful, that's a very good job. Weldon. It is a charitable work since you share the food you saved with other people.

Great post. I used to do the same thing in NYC years ago. Whole Foods in particular throw out tons of fine foods every week. We used to go "shopping" and create magnificent dinners to share with each other.
food = good
waste = bad

Too much food wasted..such a sad reality. But in this case, it was just 'almost wasted'. This is such a great initiative of yours that I hope people will support, not by dumping more 'garbage' thinking they can help dumpster divers that way, but instead, by taking conscious effort in minimizing their trash.

Wow this is absolutely amazing! I wish I was this resourceful. It's amazing that you guys are able to find so much food many people waste!!

yup but it's absolutely insane the amount of food that is wasted every day...thge food here is just form one single store...

Absolutely mind blowing!

I am FREEGAN my brother. Keep diving!

wher Is here? thanks for sharing?

Wow that's a lot of food and it look's in a good state. I think you do a great labor looking for food and sharing it with others.

WOWZER!!! where in the world do they throw this away? I can't believe how much wasted food you found. My only thing is that dumpster had to be full of bacteria, probably parasites. Be careful and wash that stuff and yourself really good. Not trying to be a jerk with this comment. I'm just saying.
