Why do I Dumpster Dive?

  • Bring awareness on how much food is wasted with our current system...
  • Save the abundance of food that is wasted and share it...
  • Minimizing costs enabling me to be less dependant on Fiat and can Power Up 100%...
  • Great regular exercise and good karma... ;)

Thursdays Weekly Meet-ups:

We meet up on Thursdays in the middle of the city to share the food we've saved during the week. It's a great way to meet, connect and support each other. We meet between 6-7 pm at the same time as the decentralized farmers market that I've initiated!

I've got great plans for 2018 and beyond and intend to work hard to achieve it. The Steem blockchain is the perfect place to create positive change as it rewards individuals that contribute to the community and humanity at large. I am wholeheartedly dedicated to this platform and my intention is to create solutions for today's problems, unite humankind once and for all and I welcome you all to join in...

I regularly invite friends over to share the abundance of food, been doing it for many years but now I also of course make sure to introduce them to the Steem blockchain! ;)

excellent work @reko
Its a sin how much the western world throws away on a daily basis. I hope your work educates more people to do what you do.

Another good way to cut down on waste is to grow your own vegetables, take what you need and if you have left-overs that you cant eat, throw them in the compost bin for next years compost.
In my country allotments (community gardens) are quite cheap. mine costs me £72 per year, bargain.

keep on educating the world @reko, ur a legend :-)

Thank you @pcste!:() Taht's great advice but I'm more of a forager then a grower as the abundance of food growing freely here is crazy especially considering I'm the only one using it....
Our compost bin is always filled up as you can imagine!!;)

you always get so much! nice haul

yeah, 9 out of 10 times...thanks for the support!:)

Good job man. The last time i read your post was on certain stock of food stuff and now you got another stock and they are well delicious to say the least and thanks for helping humanity because its rare thing for even the government to participate in it. But you showed love ro as much you can at where you reside and trust me you are very much blessed for it..keep up the good work man.

Your first line hits so hard. We ARE trashing our land for literally nothing. Not to mention all of that packaging, the fuel used to ship all around the world. If that isnt an exmaple of the absolute futilty of racing forward at full speed , I dont know what is 😒

yes, we must just stop and chill ut for a while then we will most certainly see the total craziness that is today's society...

It is a great cause you've taken on. Food wastage is a worldwide canker that should be addressed through education and change of attitude. In my country, majority of our food crops go waste due to our inability to process and store them for future use. I loved the second reason why you dumpster dive, which is to save enough and share. We can save a lot of money if we adopt this attitude. The next time I eat, I'll only take what I can consume, to save food.

that is a lot of food to be wasted , looking at my country and the way food is precious been a third world country , i can only stare in shock at how you guys throw away so much edible food, .... whaat this is absurd

country , i can only stare in shock

Thanks for the invite, you are doing a great job, more grace...nice dog

I have volunteered at food banks and homeless shelters here in the USA and almost 100% of the food used to make take away packages and hot meals were donated by supermarkets.

I am not the most well traveled of individuals so I am not sure what the situation in European countries is with food banks and homeless shelters... but have you approached these supermarkets about donating this "expired" foods to shelters or churches in your area?

Most of the time super markets and other retailers are perfectly willing to donate these goods if you take care of the logistical issues of transportation ect...

Most supermarkets and other retailers are not by any means evil or want to be wasteful... but simply don't want to waste time researching possible donation sites.

I am always very impressed by what you are able to recover, the cold weather must help keep things fresh. It seems to me though that as a solution it does not scale well. Have you considered trying to get these supermarkets to use biodegradable or consumable packaging? Then they could compost everything or better yet use it as hog food. Then nothing would go to waste. Humans have always produced a lot more food than we eat but we never considered the excess to be waste, it was animal feed or compost.

nice food...so delicious...
.i realize it so much...
i like it too much...
awesome...blog.. over all..
best of luck..
keep it on

i love your post always waiting for it i salute you for this humanity.you are a kind person.resteam your post

Awesome work, sometimes we forget how hard it is to buy food for some people.

Nice dear good home and good vagetable good for health

Download discord now.

Decentralized farmers market. How cool.

Wow! Did you find all that food in dumpster? This is shocking that there is so much waste.

well done @reko. great initiative

in germany all supermarkeds lock their garbage bins, or have huge fences around it. Is that an issue in sweden aswell?

more and more unf:/

That sucks...we rescue in a greyzone..for an animal shelter. So we can officially pick it up...most of the food gets to families tho. Keep the good work up

OHLY CHIT BATMAN! Thats a whole lotta grub. Id probably be a dumpster diver if I wasn't sketched out about germs .

This makes me really angry. Same here in berlin, so much homeles and destituted people and in the other side big markeds just throw and lock away so much still good food.

That's nice of you, a lot are really looking for the help. Thanks for your care, thanks for sharing.

Great job sir, may God reward you bountifully

Have a good day

Ohhhh yeahhh! :D

astounding work @reko

Its a wrongdoing how much the western world discards once a day. I trust your work instructs more individuals to do what you do.

ur a legend, continue don't stop

You are turning "Nothing" into "Something" Champ! Lets go baby, we're just warming up! No pain, no regrets! Lets Go Champ!

wow nice photo with testy food pic...i like it sir

Last year I started composting my kitchen vegetable scraps, and fertilizing the plants in my garden. First observation, by composting I saved a big amount of stuff headed for the landfill. Second, no fertilizer cam close to feeding my plants the way my natural compost did. Super easy, very gratifying, a win/win all around!

Nice action and great idea for the market exchange afterward.

Maybe a cool branding such as :
Food adventurers
Wasted treasure seekers

Could be an interesting thematic to develop some awareness and participation.

Or simply a big soup / meal on the friday for free to everyone in a crowded area could also bring some visibility.

It breaks my heart to see the amount of waste produced from very edible food while so many are hungry or are forced to eat garbage (pun intended) pre-packaged Monsanto food. If I weren't scared of going to jail I'd do the same... isn't it illegal in some places?

I personally think @reko is the greatest, just think of what the world would be like if every one followed his examples of non-waste..

excellent shoping. :)

I am from Venezuela, here also the food was wasted and now we are paying consequences for the very bad economic measures, but it helps us to reflect on the value of the food. Thanks for this information, I hope humanity is more aware. and Let us learn not to throw away the food that is Sacred.
