Did you stumble upon this post trying to find a permanent solution to your acne? Well, you have come to the right place. Acne and breakouts can occur at the most random times and one instantly loses the confidence to go out and face people. We all have been through a situation when we are all excited about attending an event and as soon as you see your face with bumps, it drains out your excitement. At such times, anti-acne creams don’t help much. In fact, not all products are suitable for every skin type. One should keep away from chemicals as much as possible. The truth is that if you really want a flawless skin and a healthy and fresh looking face then the most tried, tested and scientifically proven solution is good nutrition. Your eating and other intake habits largely influence your skin. Though many dermatologists still disagree with this research, me being a victim and trying a number of methods approve of this statement and I do believe that certain dietary food has really helped with not just acne but also the glow.
Of course, I would like to share a few tips with you guys too but only if you are really willing to work on it and have patience! Here are a few tips that would help fight acne through nutrition:
- Sip Water as much as possible:
The first and most important tip that you must add as a part of your routine is to sip water as much as you can throughout the day. Every dermatologist and nutritionist urges on drinking at least 2litres water a day. The reason is very simple to understand, it continuously washes out the toxins from your body, keeping your skin well hydrated.
- Avoid Sugar
High refined sugar and other highly refined grain products are a major contributor to acne and avoiding sugary food and excessive amounts of processed grains can lower the chances of acne to a great extent. You can start by cutting down on extra sugar intake daily. Limit its dose and gradually get used to food that not too sweet and fatty in properties.
- Increase Essential Vitamin Intake:
Acne may also be a result of the deficiency of useful vitamins. For example, vitamin C is very good for the skin which is found in citrus fruits such as orange. If, for any reason, you are unable to consume it, simply go for vitamin supplements which are easily available in pharmacies and show great results. You can also go for fresh juices. They’re not only refreshing to the body but your skin as well.
- Avoid High Caffeine drinks:
It is recommended by dermatologists to avoid high caffeine drinks. There was a time I used to take coffee daily and I remember how dull and dry, sometimes oily, my skin had gotten. I had to struggle with myself to cut down on caffeine and although it took some time, I managed to completely shift from caffeine to other healthier options. So what can you take as an alternate? Some studies show that green tea helps fight acne. However, keep yourself limited to a certain amount of excessive use of anything can be harmful. I also take milk at times.
- Take more Fruits and Vegetables:
Fruits and vegetables are known to be the best for your face and help in detoxifying the skin, keeping it healthy and clean. Take as many fruits as you can and if you are that much of a vegetable person, go for smoothies. Smoothies offer an easy way of nutrients intake in the form of a drink. You can also add vegetables and fruits to your liking and enjoy it every day, preferably in the morning. You will find many options for different combinations that are all beneficial for not just the skin but also your body. I have made it a habit to drink water with cucumber, lemon and ginger in it daily.
When you control your diet and are able to maintain a healthy routine, stay motivated with it and try to de-stress yourself with exercises. Stress can also cause breakouts and when that happens, we are often unable to identify the problem. However, you should take control of all the things that are in your hands and diet is one of those things. Also, try not to be overstressed over something as that can be harmful to your health as well. Good luck with fighting that acne and once you achieve your goal, share your story with others to motivate them too!
You had mentioned great points! Personally, I would also include dairy as the number one factor for acne. ;)
I totally agree with @simple.pure.katy The FDA allows a very large quantity of somatic (pus) cells in dairy products here in the United States. It just seems common sense that if you're drinking and eating pus, your body will attempt to excrete it in the most efficient way it can. Got Acne? should be the campaign....
oh ... fight with Acne is an endless fight .. I know this topic very well
So true! I too have found out the natural ways are the only true ways to beauty, and have the best skin of my life. Four years ago I quit make-up & started eating toxin-free all-natural food. Good information to share!

Good post
everybody in the world need this and also put interest in it it helps now
Excellent article, very interesting.
I am currently on an acne treatment with isotretinoin, I still have a couple of months to go.
I wonder if food intake can be the cause of acne only in teenagers? Or the age doesn’t matter?
good post, its also important to avoid PUFA fats especially fried, these are known to cause oxidative stress to your body and it messes up with your thyroid and in general with your hormonal system, this is especially sensitive during puberty since your hormonal system is already having a party and your body has a hard time adapting and balancing the new levels of hormones, for boys its also very important to eat natural anti aromatese foods, since the spike in their testosterone triggers a spike in estrogen too, foods like celery, mushrooms, broccoli and also carrots can help.
i too have extreme acne on my face and head :(
i visited several doctors but still it becomes excessive in summer.
I would surely act upon your tips to get rid of it
Thanks for the awesome info
Without active, plump oil glands, treat them successfully with over-the-counter gels or creams.

These are all great tips! I've been working on drinking 96oz of water everyday, it's rough! But I feel alot more energized. Skin-wise I think I'm at a state where my body may be detoxing from drinking that amount. I do need to work on eating healthier and such. Your post is the perfect reminder to keep me on track! Thank you for sharing!!
Great article @sameer777!

Acne is caused mainly because the pores get clogged by a excesive production of sebum that combines with dirt
This overproduction of sebum normally is caused by a diet that generates insulin spikes, because of this, it is recommended avoiding such foods as white sugar, white bread and other who have a high glycemic index.
God Bless Us All!
I was going to get a nose ring, because I have a reoccurring pimple on my nose. maybe now after reading this, I have found the solution! no nose ring lol
Acne causes can also be stress related and i know this because i had acne few years ago.
Haaa .... this is very easy and do not need to waste a lot of money ... Asia is a tropical region, acne problems are very common. Asian girls really understand how to care for the face, the secret is the yolk of the duck egg. The yellow part is separated from the white part. Then the yellow part is stirred slowly until evenly, then apply to face until flattened. Let 15 minutes then wash with warm water .... do for the first fifteen days, feel the beauty of your wow skin. very easy and simple.
... And now the solution is at hand finally. So happy!!! Thanks a thrillion

Apart from those I think a very important thing is sweating! Drink water help us to the eliminate toxins but sweating too, and what a better way yo sweat than doing exercise? ^^
Thought I'd weigh in on the acne topic as a doctor. I've seen a lot of Acne - 90% of teenagers get it after all - and it can cause a lot of problems.
Cause - simply put when your gland produce oil (sebum) this can cause local irritation and sometimes lead to blocking pores and trapping bacteria in there. This is why teenagers get it because their hormones cause more sebum production which is directly linked to severity of acne. Not all acne has bacteria involved but the worst cases typically do.
Treatment - this is step wise and theres a huge variety of meds to try so I won't go into too much depth. But typically you start with a topical retinoid / benzoyl peroxide then move up to topical antibiotic then oral antibiotics. If it's very bad specialists might consider laser / isotretinoin usage.
Food relation - this article touches on it nicely. Ultimately unhealthy foods cause you to produce more sebum through a complex mechanism. Anything that can lead to electrolyte imbalances and increased sweating can contribute. On the whole the best evidence based advice is to stay active and eat a healthy, well balanced diet which helps for Many things including acne. Everyone is different so why not try a food diary to see if any particular foods seem to cause you a flare up.
I'll stop talking now :p
Interesting perspective. I definitely agree with the regular water, less sugar ad mire natural vitamins (from food). Thanks for sharing this one!
Well, as someone who has suffered from acne for ages, I can tell 'sugar' is the evil...
Thank you for sharing the post....acne is something really common nowadays it's a common problem...all the points are really helpful
great insights especially on the sugar factor, I've noticed a difference. I also feel like hormonal factors have a lot to do with it as well!
thank you for this post i will take your advice
interresting, I guees one of most reason are hormones of the body ,Thanks for your great work it helped i upvote and follow
Having a healthy and hydrated body will definitely flush away the oil, preventing acne. This post is awesome. Looking forward to more of this.
Great article. I always found it interesting that some doctors will actually claim that acne has nothing to do with nutrition. I notice a direct correlation between what types of food I eat and how clear my complexion is. The whites of my eyes become whiter and my skin practically glows. A high fat low carb diet works wonders for acne as well.
This post give me very good idea's to maintain myself for juck foods and have to drinks water more to improve my health .......
I think your post is excellent, the food we eat also has a lot to do with the acne that comes out, so we should eat healthy food as much as possible.
Good post
This is awesome, thank you for sharing.
