📰SanukNews: Chocopocalypse

Chocolate might go extinct in your lifetime

Cacao plants will be gone by 2050.
They're disappearing because of climate change.

Cacao can only grow about 20 degrees north or south of the equator

It needs very specific climate conditions, sort of like a rainforest.
That means that only few regions are the ones producing all of the world's chocolate.
These areas are seriously at risk for dangerous climate change conditions.

One study found that 10.5% of cacao growing areas would stay usable in the future.
There's still time to save chocolate.

Mars candy company (makers of M&Ms and Snickers) pledged $1 billion to reduce its carbon footprint, they teamed up with researchers at UC Berkeley to solve the chocolate problem.
They're using gene-editing technology to develop stronger cacao plants.
If they figure it out, cacao will survive in warm climates and we would avoid a chocopocalypse.

Crispr is the same technology that's used to treat genetic diseases.
Its also behind designer babies.

Sounds alarming, who doens't love chocolates?
I don't want to be in a chocopocalypse.. I'm thinking now in investing in chocolate coz the price might increase in the future because of low supply and high demands. Lol.

Thanks for putting up with me, til next time.
