Last nights elk steaks were awesome. I let the steaks cook in a 275 oven for about 2 hours. All I did to them was sprinkle a little garlic salt and onion powder over them, then chop an onion into big chunks and put on top. Covered with foil, thank god the neighbor had some I could borrow, I was out. Put it in the oven and almost forgot about them. But with the smell of cooking meat it's hard to forget. Grabbed a couple cans of sliced tators and a can of carrots, I also had a tub of fresh mushrooms that needed to be used. Put all that over the steak and popped it back in the oven for about 45 min. It came out sooooo, soooo good. The meat was fork tender and the veggies, even for coming out of a can, were flavorful. Tonight, something easy. Hamburger and fries. Not order at the McDonald's drive-thru easy but easy enough. Homemade buns, homemade fries (3 potatoes, sliced large) and the 1/4 lb burgers. Filling and great to eat while playing Call of Duty. Hubby and brother were playing, not me. Now tomorrow it might be PB & J but for tonight we gave full bellies and a warm fire. It don't get much better.
