It's mango season and boy am I in heaven!
Even living on an island, buying mangoes in the grocery stores is expensive. Which really doesn't make much sense since the island is rich in bounty of mango trees.
So when you find a mango tree that is free for the picking, you must jump for joy.

Yeah, jump real high is the key. No just kidding, if you can't you get yourself a tree picker, which is a basket with a sharp edge on one end to cut the mango and the mango falls in the basket. 2 other options would be climb the tree, or wait for the mangos to fall to the ground.
The fallen mangoes usually are the ripest and best mangos (I Spose that's why God made mango trees of up to 40 feet high in some cases .) but they get bruised really easy from the fall. Plus you risk the iguanas and chickens from eating your mangoes.
I'm pretty sure I already won the mango eating contest. I'll save you the gory details of that one and let's just say it has been a mango feast.

Health Benefits of Eating Mangoes
Mangos have high levels of fiber and pectin. They contain contains 32% of your daily recommended intake of vitamin A, 96% of vitamin C, 12% of vitamin E, 11% of vitamin K, and 14% of vitamin B6. They contains smaller amounts of many more vitamins.
It's also rich in iron, magnesium, and glutamic acid which helps repair damaged tissue especially of the brain.
Mangoes also protect against free radicals which include UV rays from the sun. People who live in the tropics can attest that the heat and bite of the sun on their skin can be much. You might wanna eat a boatload if mangoes if you plan to spend you day in the sun or out on the water.
I've recently learned that mangos and some other tropical fruits help to cool down the body and prevent harm from overheating thus preventing heat stroke.
From an ayurvedic viewpoint, the reason people often get diuretic and exhausted when visiting equatorial climates is because the strong “sun energy” is burning up your body, particularly the muscles. The kidneys then become overloaded with the toxins from this process creating health problems.
In that case Nature never ceases to amaze me and always seems to have a natural antidote or solution to whatever it creates. Thus eating the foods being produced in the area you reside in is always a good idea.
How to Cut and Eat a Mangoes
Cut the ends off of the mango into three parts like this.
Next cut horizontal and vertical lines into the end part of the mango that you just cut into 3 parts, not quite cutting through the mango. Push up in the center with your finger.
Viola, you have beautiful pieces of mango that you can eat with a fork.
The seed part, you can cut the skin off and eat the rest as is or cut around the seed for the rest of the edible fruit.
Warning: If you have a latex allergy, a reaction is possible with mangos, particularly green mangos. This reaction develops because of anacardic acid.
Mango peel and sap contain urushiol, the chemical in poison ivy and poison sumac which can cause an allergic reaction in susceptible individuals.
