Passion Fruit is native to tropical and subtropical areas of South America. It is now commercially grown around the world and is known by different names such as maracujá in Brazil , maracuyá or parcha in Spain and Latin America, in France grenadille or fruit de la passion and lilikoʻi in Hawaii, which was my favorite drink when I lived on Oahu. Other than the ABC store in Vegas I have yet to be able to find it on the mainland, although there are some sellers that offer it on Ebay from time to time:

Passion fruit is considered a pepo or type of berry and certain varieties can grow up to the size of a grapefruit. The pulp can be eaten raw and depending upon the variety ranges from sweet to tart although it is most often juiced. The vine can be easily propagated via cloning and can also be grown from seed.
