Great post! Thanks for sharing! We've been growing our own food in the midst of suburbia for years now, and it has been a lot of fun - we've made great connections with neighbors and eaten some amazingly tasty food!
Thank you for such a high quality and valuable information @SteveO
Permaculture is the only way to ensure that our children are with you do not eat the poisoned food as it's happening now, and pure natural products to clean drinking water, live, and breathe clean air.
you realize that the plants and seeds they sell are hybrids right , they have be fucked with to make them weaker to disease so you buy more.
you need heirloom seeds they are more adapted and the farming market has had a lot mass extinctions of crops types these heirloom seeds could save a entire species of crop.
Great post! The benefits of urban agriculture is way beyond food itself. It not only enables the urban poor to better feed themselves, but also creates a venue for social interactions, community building and food education. It makes our city and suburban regions more lively and diverse, and brings us closer to nature. This is fairly important for our modern lives.
I feel that urban agriculture couldn't just solve local hunger needs, but perhaps energy needs by using the excess food as an energy source instead of simply being extra income.
It cost about a nickel to grow a head of lettuce and WalMart Charges $2.99.
Growing your own food is a way to save money and live a healthier life.
I am growing cucumbers, watermelons, tomatoes, bell peppers and some wheat this year. I hope to have a bigger garden when I have a bigger space.
dont for get about seed saving :)
You could always try container gardening and growing vertically to gain more from your space. Just a suggestion
Thanks. I have been looking into stackables. I still have time since I am so far south to grow a couple of more this year.
Thanks for this, will do my part to turn my land in the Hawaiian suburbs into a productive garden!

Its not just suburbia, my hometown of Detroit is increasingly turning to urban farming as a way to rehabilitate vast tracts of vacant land.
