All preppers know the drill. Rice and beans. Beans and rice.
Sure, you want a deep pantry with plenty of variety. Things your family already eats. Rotate your stock. Yadda yadda yadda.
But for long-term storage, we all store lots of rice and beans, with good reason. Combined, they have all the amino acids you need and are a good source of the calories your body requires.
But pasta is a great supplement to this system. Stored in a cool, dry, dark place, it’s got a shelf-life of several years. Add oxygen absorbers and Mylar bags to your food storage plans, and you could easily up that to 10+ years.
My local Costco recently started stocking a new item, boxes of 20 pounds of spaghetti.
32,000 calories for $4.97? That’s one hell of an insurance policy. In a grid-down SHTF scenario, that’s food for a family of four for a month for less than 50 bucks. Granted, you’re not going to be eating just pasta. But, added to your other preps, it’s a cheap and easy way to extend your food supplies during a crisis.
