I like to be an open book so I will share some of the ways in which I fight cravings given that one of my life goals is to eat healthy. That doesn’t mean I’m immune to cravings such as ice-cream, chocolate and one of my favorites, potato crisps. Given that all those goodies come with lots of sugar, salt and calories, whenever I have a craving, I take myself out to the market if there are no fruits in the house. Here’s how I made two portions of salads today. I simply bought four types of fruits but made two portions the only difference being switching up water melons and pawpaw. The banana and mango had to be in both since I love both of them just as much.
Some of the benefits of the fruits I played with are explained below. Pawpaw acts as an anti-oxidant, improves heart health, protects skin damage and improves digestion. Mangoes lower cholesterol, like other fruits aid in digestion, clears the skin, improves sexual drive as well as preventing cancer. Watermelons prevent inflammation, improves heart health, is good for your skin and hair and most importantly hydrates you giving you a refreshing feeling especially when it’s hot. Ripe bananas are rich in potassium. Eating bananas lowers your blood pressure, hence very good for heart health since they are rich in magnesium as well. They are also good for the eye. Bananas have the ability to fight cancer in addition to other nutritious.
Nothing tastes as good as health. So when I fight my cravings by loading up on fruits instead of processed snacks, I pat myself on the back knowing that the efforts I put on working out are not in vain. Also, an apple a day keeps the doctor away. Fruits as mentioned above improve your general health thereby minimizing the trips you’d make to the doctor, saving your money in the process. One way to make sure you eat healthy is to incorporate the fruits that are in the season in your diet plan or during the day whenever you feel you want to munch something light. You can also make juices or smoothies by blending a variety of fruits and carry that instead of buying your regular coffee. I feel bad because yesterday after coming from the gym, I came and made pancakes instead of eating fruits or vegs. My fave fruits are citrus, apples, pinepples and melons. And of course, Avocado is bae.
